(almost) silent wonder,
By Chris H "Chris H" (London, UK) - See all my reviews

just set up our first ANDREA with an Aloe Vera plant inside and am loving it... the fresh greenhouse-like smell that comes out (especially when you first turn it on) is great and it looks perfect in the corner of our front room. there's an adjustable fan and you can turn on the light for a super sci-fi effect at night - which makes it look like something out of "Sunshine". right now we're moving it around the house every few days - might buy a dedicated one just for the bedroom. only complaint is that it's not *quite* quiet enough to leave on next to your bed while you sleep, but then i'm a pretty light sleeper!

Put simply this is a very expensive air filter to only last a single year. We contacted the company to no avail. We really loved Andrea, until she began making loud noises. The motor still runs, but the efficacy of the filter is severely reduced and the noise intolerable.

Hard to say how effective it was, but it was extremely cool looking, albeit a little loud. But in less than year, the fan stopped working. What a waste of money!

Harnessing nature,

People seem to have a problem with this product based simply on the fact that it incorporates a plant. What a bizarre idea, they tell everyone, and yet neither of the people who has left reviews (on is of another model) have even tried the product! My mother just bought herself one of these and her allergies have vastly improved (she has severe allergies). I am ordering one today. My review is based on personal experience of the time I spent at my mother's while it was running. People seem to have serious issues with anything nature based claiming that only artificial things really work or are good for us. This product brings together the best of both worlds, natural and scientific (based on NASA technology). Why leave reviews if you haven't even tried it? I thought this was supposed to be a meritocracy, let experience = reviews.

I've just received it. My first impression: so-so.
The translucid part is electrostatic. It is not quiet. And the leds don't work.

Mold Mildew and Bacteria can grow inside the soil !,

This review is from: ANDREA: Plant-based Air Purifier (White) (Kitchen)
I was wondering if the designer whom designed this gadget has taken any science classes? all the Mold Mildew and Bacteria inside soil sometimes can be very bad for your health! so for someone like me who is allergic to mold and mildew... this will make my indoor air quality even worst! imagine that soil is in a moisture & small confined space... it will be a mold mildew & bacteria farming heaven!!! yes it's very pretty to look at it, but com'on, use your common sense, it's not exactally "purifying" anything!

$150 pot? The companies selling this are laughing all the way to the bank,

If you buy this gadget you are in serious need of a personal finance class. This is a pot, for a plant, with a dome and fan attached. I priced some plant pots for about $15 for the same size.

Seriously?,

I couldn't let this obviously ridiculous item go without comment. Plants are natural air purifiers. They don't need help from the technological advances of a motorized fan to perform their natural function. For the price of one of these units, a person could purchase more than enough plants to clean the air of the average sized home.
