It showed perfect SWR on the 440 MHz (70 cm) band, although not into the 432 portion, out of the box. I was able to reach more distant UHF repeaters than I could with a 1/4-wave whip, and do so with a somewhat better signal.
On 220 MHz (1.25M), SWR was also perfect out of the box, and performance was improved over a 1/4-wave whip.
Two metres (144 MHz), however, was not so good. SWR was acceptable at 1.3, but there was no difference in signal reports or range when compared to a 1/4-wave whip.
Before you think that you can make this work by tuning, remember that any adjustment that you make affects *all three* bands. I spent about 45 minutes making very minor tweaks, none of which improved things over the "out the box" situation.
Also, the antenna that I got was not a fold-over, and was not black. The picture and description have changed since I ordered.
This antenna works well for me, because I need better UHF and 1.25M "reach" than I do on two metres. Most of the two-metre repeaters that I frequent are quite easy to reach with even a 1/4-wave whip. If I were to travel to the rural areas, I would use a gain antenna suited for two metres. But for daily use in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area, this Anli tri-band does everything that I need it to do. It's a bit tall, but it's light enough that it puts no undue stress on my trunk-lip mount.
There are not a lot of options for "gain" 222 MHz antennae out there, but this is very good for that band.
EDIT: After two months, I noticed a pattern in signal reports stating strong "picket fencing" and "flutter".Read more ›

Center pin is too short for a standard NMO mount. Contacted dealer and they blamed it on the mount, but ALL my other antennas work with my NMO mount.Published 17 months ago by Wuzuafuzz
