This volume contains the start of the current ongoing nova series and as a fair warning this volume is a little bit continuity heavy. The first three issues deal with the fall out from two major marvel events Annihilation and Civil War and the 10 remaining issues are tied into another event Annihilation: Conquest. While these other stories certainly enrich the experience they are not necessary to enjoy this volume. I will not be giving spoilers but I can say that this series moves fast and hits hard. Plot twist and water cooler moments are the status quo for this book and almost every issue is a surprise. The wild ride nova finds himself on is well suited for the epic vastness of space and the oversized trim only enhances that effect. Even if you are not a fan of the cosmic subgenre this collection is amazing. Cannot wait for volume 2.
