AOPEN DUW 1608R Review
Well, to start off with, I bought this drive about 6 months ago, and at the time it was the drive with the fastest cd writing capability I could find. Now wait just a minute before crucifying me, I know this is a DVD writer. However, it seems as if companies cannot wrap their heads around the fact that I might want to replace my cd writer with a DVD writer... Anyway,...

headache
If you ever need customer service or support you should plan on a lot of hassles and a lot of wasted time. this company has very poor and very unorganized customer service.

Well, to start off with, I bought this drive about 6 months ago, and at the time it was the drive with the fastest cd writing capability I could find. Now wait just a minute before crucifying me, I know this is a DVD writer. However, it seems as if companies cannot wrap their heads around the fact that I might want to replace my cd writer with a DVD writer... Anyway, that being said and done, on paper the drive was the best I've seen, even beating the LG drive at the time. I don't know how they compare currently.The price was rather good too (R700.00 in our currency, which equals about $107.00). Despite many bad things I have heard and seen about Aopen (and didn't know at the time of buying - Drives refusing to open and close, DVD writers failing, etc.) I have had not a single problem with my drive... Oh, wait, there was one... It refused to write on a Princo DVD, but a firmware upgrade fixed the problem. Besides that, I have much joy from it, and it is rather fast too (burns an 8x DVD in just under 15 mins on my pc). CDs are blisteringly fast too, it takes about 2.5 mins on a 700 Mb Disc. So folks, there you have it: Great buy, great value for money, great product! Way to go AOPEN!

I've had very few problems with this DVDRW. The problem I've had could be blamed on software(Nero) or the operator. Overall, for the price it is a great piece of equipment.

I have had numerous problems with this drive. It has successfully burned CDs 3 times since installation. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the device, switched around the cabling in my machine, updated my chipset, and updated Nero. Nothing works. I would strongly recommend that before buying this or any other Aopen DVD drive, you check Aopen's forums.I personally will not be purchasing another Aopen product. It isn't worth the hassle. |
