This review is from: APBA Pro Baseball Board Game (Toy)
Believe it or not I started playing APBA Pro Baseball when I was still a teenager back in 1971. It was during that spring that my friends and I started our own APBA baseball league. Though a couple of our members have passed away over the years and others have moved away or dropped out our league is still going strong today. In fact, our seven member league expects to kick off our 39th season within the next two weeks.
APBA Pro Baseball was founded in Lancaster, PA by a group of Phillies fans back in 1950. When they realized that the game they had created was something very special they decided to form a company and market it to fans around the country. Needless to say they succeeded beyond their wildest dreams! What differentiates APBA Pro Baseball from the rotisserie leagues that so many fans get involved with is that you actually play the games. Each January, a new set of player cards is issued based on the previous seasons statistics. The game is based on probability and dice are involved. Each game takes about 20 minutes to play and believe me the results are usually pretty realistic. APBA Pro Baseball is extremely easy to learn and people can be playing the game after just a few hours of practice. APBA Pro Baseball is quite similar to another tabletop baseball game you might have heard of called Strat-O-Matic. There are APBA Pro Baseball Leagues all over the country and many of them like ours have been around for a good many years. For more information you can always check out apbagames.com. If you have a group of friends who would be willing to commit to just a few hours each week you will quickly discover that APBA Pro Baseball is a terrific hobby. Very highly recommended!

I purchased this game through APBA 2 years ago along with the football game. I'm sorry, but I wasn't impressed with either of them. They both come with a "basic" game for beginners, but if you want to play the "master" game for advanced players, you have to purchase that game separately. Whereas a game like Strat-O-Matic comes with both a basic and advanced game.
Moreover, you can't call for your players to steal bases in APBA Baseball. This decision is already made for you on the play results. I'm not a fan of this as I like to be able to make the moves as a baseball manager on a board game. The football game was an absolute headache to play. It literally gave me a headache after playing it for less than a week. And this game, while not a bad game, just isn't as much fun as other games like Strat-O-Matic.

I enjoyed playing this game. It isn't as involved as Strat-o-Matic which I like. The cards are also smaller than Strat-o-Matic which I also like. What I didn't like was that I couldn't buy current teams.
