Pro: Tall, skinny and black. Lots of reserve power. Quality assurance test results came with unit. Battery fully charged out of box. Easy set up. 3 Year "Peace of Mind" warranty.

Con: Proprietary battery. The promised software CD was not included. No option to keep display on full time. Power outage test cut output voltage from 122 to 113 and kicked on a noisy internal fan. Retail price is noticeably higher than it was a couple of years ago. Some slight first use burn in smell.

The "Power Saving Battery Backup" seems to be better engineered than my late, no so great APC back-UPS with similar backup power.

Specs: Output capacity: 1350VA/810 watts. Outputs: 5 battery backup, 5 surge only (3 are master controlled).

I like it well enough. With coupons etc i ended up getting it for under $100 so i got a really good price. Im not sure on the battery availability but i do know batteries plus can handle the job when the time comes. Its getting long in the teeth as a model so this isnt a big surprise. There is a pretty loud cooling fan that comes on when you hit ~60 to 70% of the rated output. I never hit it in my setup unless I am running benchmark software at 100% load on my machine which includes an overclocked 8320, overclocked geforce 770, 3 hard drives, 2 optical drives, water pump for AIO setup with 2 fans, a couple case fans and a 750 watt PSU,speakers and 23 inch monitor.................... in other words if your just running a computer setup on this you wont hear the fan but rarely if at all. The software is useful and provides a lot of good information. Display doesnt stay on though which would be nice. I am happy with the purchase and performance. Its not top of the line, its a midline unit and performs appropriately.

I'm not sold on APC's reliability, and you'd do well to heed the tales of woe from people dealing with their customer service. But I found this on sale at Sam's Club for $149 earlier this year and figured it was worth the risk.

The APC unit that this model replaced in my home was about six years old, and I had just ordered its third battery when I learned that it wasn't the battery itself that was bad but an internal component had started to fail, causing the unit to click loudly at random times. This problem also makes it difficult to switch off the unit, for some reason. APC refuses to acknowledge it, but from online research it appears to be a widespread issue, often affecting newer models.

I've got two other small capacity APC UPS units (BG350G) in home and one battery failed after just 2 years, far short of the 3-5 years quoted on their website. So I'll be happy if this particular unit makes it to the two year mark with no battery or internal issues.

So far, first impressions are positive. This unit is smaller, sleeker and feels more robust than earlier models. The illuminated LCD display is a great feature, as are the menu/alarm buttons that allow control without hooking up to a PC. There's an audible cooling fan that kicks on when the backup is supplying internal power, so I am hoping the design has improved and this will be a long lasting backup. It can power my DirecTV DVR and a 65" rear projection HDTV for about 30 minutes. I think if this were used on a standard desktop computer, it might double or triple that run time. Very nice.

Before purchasing any APC, try looking up the product on their site.
You wont find it, because they don't bother posting the specs/manuals for products sold by partner companies.

When I called them, they seemed to think it is OK to waste 1000s of hours of their customers time.
