APC BR24BP BACK-UPS RS/XS 1500VA 24V Battery For BR1500

I own 2 APC RS1500 UPS's with BR24BP battery packs attached. The good news: The BR24BP extends the UPS run time exactly as it was designed to do. The bad news: When the BR24BP fails, the UPS hardware and PowerChute software do NOT detect the failure, and the failure of the BP24BP may drain a good battery in the RS1500 UPS rendering the UPS useless in the event of a power outage or event. Even though the BP24BP has failed, the UPS passes the "Self-Test" with the only indication of a problem being a decreasing Battery Capacity and Battery Time in the PowerChute software even though there is not a power outage or event underway.

I purchased this along with the BR1500 last year and so far I have been extremely pleased. When the power goes out, I can get around 1.5 hours of additional runtime from my equipment. This handles quite a bit of equipment. It does take awhile to fully charge after a complete drain and that is expected considering the size of the batteries.

It may seem expensive on paper, but nothing is that expensive considering you are plugging thousands of dollars worth of equipment into it and if you are in the IT industry, uptime is obviously very important. I highly recommend this product as a wonderful compliment to the BR1500.

This is an excellent compliment to the BX1500 or BR1500 UPS. With this battery attached I get several more hours of runtime depending on the load. Definitely worth it for extended use during power outages.

APC makes very good products; I have been using their stuff for over 20 years and have only had one problem that APC support took care of quickly.

The only negative thing about this battery pack is it does not have user replaceable batteries. If you have mechanical aptitude you can order batteries and replace them your self, it is not to difficult.

I have bought 4 of these now with the matching BR1500 UPS. With a Dell PowerEdge 2950 server (8 HDD, Dual Proc, Dual power supply) my run-time is 53 minutes. Making this the cheapest "Extended Run" UPS from APC.

HOWEVER, please note that the PowerChute Business edition is not compatible with this UPS. You must use Personal Edition - which means you can only monitor one UPS and there is no email notification when the power goes out.

Fully charged, synced and ready for outage that happened the next day!

This UPS supports two workstations, multiple external drives, mutiple screens, router, switch and access point.
It is a realiable workhourse that most times carries a small load.
This is not a Shetland pony but a full sized Clydesdale.

BACKGROUND

I have three of these units, the first one purchased in approximately 2003.

I have two high-end Linux workstations. One is a two cpu dual-core 3.0GHz AMD Opteron with a NVIDIA 8800GT video card and water cooling, the other is a two cpu quad-core 3.0GHz Intel Xenon with a NVIDIA Quadro FX 5600 video card. Using an APC BR1500 UPS and the apcupsd software package on each of the two workstations, both machines had an approximate battery backup period of 12 minutes.

EXPECTATIONS

[1] Increase the battery backup period
[2] Easy interoperability with the BR1500 UPS

RESULTS

[1] With the APC BR24BP, the battery backup period increased from 12 minutes to 45 minutes. That is nearly a factor of four increase, which I felt justified the relatively expensive cost.

[2] It is so easy to connect the BR24BP to the BR1500 UPS. The BR24BP has a built in cable to attaches to a dedicated port on the BR1500. That is the only connection required. Power to charge the BR24BP is provided from the BR1500 via the cable. The BR24BP provides plastic extensions to allow the BR24BP to share the same floor mounting stand with the BR1500.

SUMMARY

I am 100% satisfied with this product. It has met all of my expectations. The casing if of high quality and it perfectly matches the BR1500's color and casing.

I would highly recommend this item to a colleague.

The battery backup was very well priced and delivery was on time. It works great. I would buy from this seller again !

This device was not only easy to install but works great. Window 7 already have the drivers installed.

My computer system is not what you would call normal, it is mounted in a box truck that is always on the move. The conditions are dusty, hot and about a bad as it can get for a computer. This APC backup system has done a great job at keeping my computer up while I travel, without ac power, from one place to another.

It has only one drawback, that will rarely effect any normal user, it won't run on a modified sine wave that is produced by most, dc to ac inverters.

Other than that, this battery is great!
