2.0 out of 5 stars Voltage Regulation
There is two settings you can use, 120vac and 127vac. When I set it on 120vac with 113.5vac coming out of the wall, I get 113.5vas out of the unit. When I set it to 127vac, I get 132vac out of the unit, thats a little high but seems to work ok for what I'm using it for (flicker lights). The flicker lights do not work very well 113.vac. The company wrote back and said that...

This review is from: APC LE600 Line-R 600VA Automatic Voltage Regulator (Electronics)
The APC LE600 Line-R Automatic Voltage Regulator provides surge protection just like those power strips you can buy. But it also provides power protection as well, making sure the power going through it is kept at a steady voltage.

I live in an area where we get frequent brownouts. Our household voltage will dip, the lights dim, and some appliances will turn off (especially electronics, such as the DVR and computers). Consumer grade battery backup units seem to allow the reduction in power to flow right though; they tend to come on-line after the power is off completely. The LE600 has a transformer inside that boosts the incoming power so its a steady voltage. It switches on silently and boosts the power in a fraction of a second.

Now, the lights dim, but my DVR and my computer keep right on going.

Prior to installing a LE600 on my entertainment system I was burning through Dish Network DVRs every few months. Since adding the LE600 to that system 2 years ago I have not had a DVR failure. I recently had my battery backup on the computer upstairs give up the ghost (the batteries do wear out, and are expensive to replace.) I replaced it with another LE600. For my use, the LE600 swings into action quick enough to prevent the system from rebooting during a brownout. The downside? Its not a battery backup, so if you lose power completely, your system goes down.

There are more expensive alternatives, such as the APC AV H15BLK Home Theater 1500VA Power Filter and Power Conditioner (BLACK), if you want to protect very sensitive electronic components like that $10,000 tube-type amplifier you're dreaming about. I'm not an electrical engineer by any means, but my understanding is that the more expensive units do a better job of making sure the power sine wave is well formed. And lord knows, we all want a well formed power sine wave.

But, for my home theater and home computer use, the APC LE600 has been a quick, inexpensive and long lasting solution. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars It has already paid for itself, October 26, 2010

I bought this unit as I live in South America and the power fluctuations are constant. So much so that my Sony 52" Bravia LCD TV had a problem due to spiking power voltages and the repair shop told me to get an Automatic Voltage regulator. I bought one for both Sony TV's we have.

When I first plugged the unit in it immediately registered high voltage and stayed that way. This made me think something was wrong with the unit. I dragged out my old voltage meter and to my surprise it was registering 130 volts at the outlet. I then checked the APC Voltage Regulator and it was putting out just under 120 volts which is perfect. I called my electrician and he checked the wiring in the condo and at the panel. We have 3-phase service to our unit and 1 phase registered 118 volts and the other 2 registered 130.2 volts which is on the threshold of some serious problems expecially with sensitive electronic devices and appliances. Needless to say I have notified our building of this issues and it is being taken care of.

If you have a lot of money invested in flat panel tv's and home theater systems, computers, and such you really should have an automatic voltage regulator. Forget the surge supressors as this also has that built in. APC is a leading company and due to my experience I will definately be buying a couple more of these.

I am writing about this equipment's capability to keep voltage variations within the limits required by my large flat screen TV but, obviously, it would apply to other, similar uses as well.

I am an electrical engineer and bought this equipment to control the large voltage variations in a rural area which were causing my TV (46" Samsung LCD) to flip off and on 10-30 times a day. I had read that modern TV's had built in voltage regulation circuits to handle this kind of problem. But either my TV does not have such circuitry or the designers didn't anticipate the degree of variations in our rural Virginia power.

I have had the LE600 for about 2 weeks. I haven't had a single incident of TV off/on flipping since I hooked it up. I highly recommend this equipment for voltage regulation problems of this type. Most LCD TV's use less than 300 watts, so it can handle other equipment such as DVD burners/players along with the TV so long as the total wattage doesn't exceed 600. However, it is not designed to do the kind of power regulation and noise filtering that some audio addicts require.

The company wrote back and said that is normal operation. They also said it is not possible with this unit to make the output a set voltage. I'm not happy with the 120vac setting, but it works ok with the 127vac setting even though it's a little high. I'm going to keep it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Voltage Regulator, July 9, 2010

I bought a voltage regulator because I was having problems with my network card connection. Every time there is a thunder storm in my area, the electricity goes out briefly and I would lose my internet connection, sometimes for days. I would need to continually unplug and then plug back in the network card cable attached to my PC to get an internet connection.
The power has gone out twice since I installed the APC LE600 Line-R and both times the internet connection stayed up and running. So far this product has worked fine and I'm happy with this purchase.

I have my HD tv and DVR plugged into this. Before I had an old power strip. The TV would often freeze so bad that the only thing I could do was unplug the set. Since replacing the powerstrip with the voltage regulator, no problems.

Works great. Bought for my guitar amp, it had a nasty hum in it. I was told that I might have bad power(spikes and such) in my home(old house). This took the humm right out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why buy an expensive inverter generator ?, September 20, 2011
This review is from: APC LE600 Line-R 600VA Automatic Voltage Regulator (Electronics)
been using the voltage regulator for 2 years now on a 1200 watt ETO generator. No issues with a Dish TV HD receiver, an LCD tv or a 1080i home theater projector. The only way to use a conventional generator with electronics.

This is a nice to have, esp. if you have fluctuating voltage in your house, and a lot of lighting storms. I was having a lot of problems with fluctuating voltage, and that's why I bought this item. It turned out that I had a loose neutral outside of the house. I still use this because it just added protection when lighting hits the lines outside.
