Four stars instead of 5 is because one important thing that doesn't seem to be mentioned in the manual and specs sheet is the amount of power it consumes from the mains socket even when its battery is charged up and all connected equipment is turned off or unplugged:

- at 122 VAC input I measured 0.86 amps, or about 105 watts, so if
left plugged in 24 hours/day this translates to each UPS adding
$9/month (or more depending on local utility rates) to your
power bill even if it never cuts in due to power outages;

- this continues while remaining plugged in to the mains even if
the UPS is turned off with its front panel button because it
still powers the battery charging circuitry.

Ordered APC UPS, good thing came with super saver shipping, cost $70 for faster shipping! Works great! This one is a 1500 VA, which is 980 watts, plenty for 2-3 computers & monitors! Strongly reccomend!

I had my reasons (decent reviews were one of them) for purchasing an item that was not currently in production. Manufacturer support is supposedly still available, and having bought a refurbished product, the vendor that refurbished it sent along support info with the unit. More on that in a moment.
The unit - -
PRO: (1) Built like a tank. Ruggedly made, tough case, solidly assembled.
(2) Has great power factor tolerance; 960W from 1500VA, compared to 850 or so W from most UPSs rated for 1500VA.
(3) Manages AC power perfectly even with the unstable AC utility power where I have it installed, and with everything I could do to make the load change quickly and unpredictably.

CON: (1) Outlets are crammed together on the back panel, hard to plug stuff in and out, especially if some of the things to plug in use 'power packs'. Best way is to use an outlet strip off one of the rear panel outlets (which usually makes things neater anyway).
(2) Load indicator LED stack only indicates when load is above about 35% rated output. One LED for 35%, 2 for 50%, 3 for 60%, more or less. This isn't that big a deal, but my operating load is about 35% or less, so I can't visually check on what's happening that way.

Neither 'con' is worth lowering the number of stars.

BEWARE OF THE APC 'POWERCHUTE' PERSONAL EDITION!!! It didn't work with the APC Smart UPS! It is hard to find but you can get a copy of the 'business edition' of Powerchute, hopefully from the vendor who refurbished the UPS. This version worked just fine, the first time. Many parameters of the UPS can be accessed and adjusted with this software, and you get a nice readback of what your AC utility power is doing. Also has load power management.

When I upgraded my system to a homebrew i7-920 with a PFC type power supply, my old UPS decided to give up the ghost. It wouldn't hold it at all when the power glitched, not even for a second. I gave it to my wife, who has a small HP system, works great for her. For months, I didn't know what was the problem, then I read that my fancy PFC power supply needed an UPS that created a "Sine Wave" output. I installed this one, and it works great! My system pulls around 50% of the capacity of this thing and it laughs off power glitches now. Best and most powerful UPS I have ever owned.

If you want real protect and backup (30 minutes or more) for a desktop/server there is no better product. Price was attractive but always check the APC site for special multiple day discount offers or open box items.
