Yet another great APC product,

I own many APC UPSes, from the relatively high end (i.e., like this one) to the relatively 'normal' levels. All seem incredibly well built. Before buying a UPS understand why APC has these various offerings, and try to understand which you might need. I wouldn't want my more critical servers ideally on anything below the Smart UPS series (they tend to have a pure sine wave output, along with a much more tightly regulated output). The Backup Pro series is a minor step down from the Smart UPS, in that it sacrifices pure sine wave output. The Backup series (non-pro) still has a very nicely regulated output, but is not quite as tightly controlled as the Pro series (nor of course does it have pure sine wave output).APC sells serious stuff, at all levels, for very real reasons.

Does exactly what it's supposed to do, I've used a lot of APC products for work server farms. This purchase was for home use and it was a great buy for the power. The only downside is the weight, which is quite heafty, but is not a problem unless you have to move it; which isn't very often.

exelent lightning protection,
This review is from: APC SUA750XL 750VA Extended Run 120V Line-int 8-Out USB Smart-UPS (Black) (Electronics)
this battery backup is defanantly worth the money and have by far paid for themselvs. i have 4 of these units. one on my tv, one on my computer, and one on my audio equiptment, then the other running various electronics like cellphone charger, lamps, clocks, cordless phone and such. recently we had a huge thunderstorm and lighting hit a utility pole just down the road and i heard this loud snap from all the outlets then all the lights went out. i thought for shure everything was fried. but with great supprize everything connected to these units were working flawlesly. my $1500 computer never skipped a beat and my $5000 entertainmend system never had one problem. the run time on these are exelent i had about an hour on my computer and plenty of time to watch a full movie on my 56" tv with my surround sound. later i checked out where the lightning hit the pole, it literaly blew the transformer off the pole. i most defanantly reccomend these units to others. something else i wanted to add is these units work well off of my portable 4000 watt generac generator, though you may have to adjust the sensitivity to medium but they will work well.

Smart Power,

I own a Dell Studio XPS 435t, and It wasn't until the first brown out (not even lights out) that I discovered I had a unique power supply on this computer. She shut off immediately! What! the lights just flickered? After two more experiences, and several calls to Dell and APC, I discovered essentially that this thing has to have a clean and uninterrupted power (non stepped Sine wave) source. Unfortunately, my system crashed because it was performing a critical update during one of the outages, and even with the APC (RS 1300) unit that I had on it, out she went. In comes the "Smart power". Where the 750XL may have been geared for small business etc. This type of back up is essential and well worth the investment, if you have a similar computer, or server, and critical power is necessary at all times. While I don't need the extra electronics that you can purchase separately for the unit, the optional battery add on (several if need be) is very nice for expandability. Even with the load I run with my peripherals, I still have approximately 90 minutes of run time with a single battery!

PREMIUM & AFFORDABLE UPS!!,

orI am NOT and employee of either Amazon OR APC. This is a genuine consumer report from a person who hesitates not a second to raise holy hell on bad service and bad, undependable products. My survival depends on this because I am a 70 yr old single Senior living on an extremely limited income during these troubled times...That said, I offer to those with eyes that see, and a reasonably well working brain the following: IF YOU HAVE A COMPUTER, A HDTV, SATELLITE RECEIVER AND A DEDCENT LOW WATAGE LIGHT THEN YOU MUST CONSIDER PURCHASE OF AN UN-INTERUPTABLE POWER SUPPLY. IF YOU ALREADY KNOW THIS THEN YOU WOULD BE VERY WISE TO PURCHASE THE RELATIVELY LOW COST VERY HIGH TECH APC SUA750XL EXTENDED RUN "SMART-UPS" OFFERED THROUGH AMAZON. This product which I purchased 2/3/09 from CCIX out of Salt Lake City, Utah is not only a "SMART-UPS" that washes voltage 24/7 like doing laundry BUT it delivers a PURE SINE WAVE (constant)to your most prized and needed electronics. I know this because I went through an OK 1800 watt NOMA/Duracell unit I had for 2-3 years BUT was going to cost me over $300. to REPLACE the bateries that finally toasted. I tried not one, but two TRIPPLITE UPS units. Both failed within a week and I can't even get TRIPPLITE to return e mails and they won't even reply. I wasted almost $200. on two worthless pieces of crap and precious time trying to deal with crappy customer service. I went without any UPS for several months due to that companies practice. (so sue me!) . Here is the really good news re the APC unit...you can ADD additional back up batteries to increase your back up down time. That way you can watch satellite hd, dvr movies, PS3 for as long as you have backup reserve. I LUV my APC UPS. If it were a blue eyed blonde, trim, approx age 35-45 with a brain I would propose marriage to her! Hope this helps one and all! GEEZERKATZ

Terrible experience,
This review is from: APC SUA750XL 750VA Extended Run 120V Line-int 8-Out USB Smart-UPS (Black) (Electronics)
I bought 5 of these products and my experience with them has been simply disastrous.1) on three of them I installed an energy star 55W circular fluorescent dimmable torchiere lamp: all the torchieres attached to the ups failed within a month or so, and in a very strange way. First the lamp would take a few minutes to light up after being turned on, then as every week passes the delay would become longer until it was litteraly hours (up to about 5 hours!) before it would not light up at all. Changing the bulbs did not correct anything. The UPS seems to have over a short period of time permanently damage the transformer inside my fluorescent torchiere, that's the only explanation possible. VERY IMPORTANTLY: I own 5 others torchiere connected directly to a normal outlet (WITHOUT a ups) and they are still performing perfectly. So in conclusion: the SUA750Xl APC ups PERMANENTLY destroyed 3 fluorescent dimmable torchiere in a matter of 1 to 2 month by simply connecting them to it. I don't know what that UPS does to the current as it passes through the machine, but the current coming out is simply not a normal current as far as this experience clearly shows. 2) one of my ups simply exploded in my living room! A huge flash of fire went through the two sides (with little holes for aeration). Terrified, I disconnected the unit took my fire extinguisher in case it got worse and immediately called APC. They simply told me not to worry, that these things happens, to try to restart the (now still fuming! as I explained them) unit and if it does not restart, then trow it away. They never wanted me to resent to them, or do any sort of quality control security check, or do any more enquiry whatsoever. The ups was very close to my curtain: the flash of fire could simply have light it up and, if I had not been present in the room, burn my house killing possibly sleeping occupants, but apc considers this explosion "normal" and not out-of-the-ordinary for their machines! 3) one of a brand new unit has a smoky "smells" whenever it is turned on (even though it appears to function well) so much so that I cannot stay in the same room as it is and have to keep it in the basement (actually I am not using it anymore). I didn't even bother calling APC for this: surely if an exploding APC is normal for them, a "subjective" smell for smoke is something they will just laught at. |
