Really nothing to say about these units, which is the best possible recommendation for a UPS. But I will talk about ours since no one else has posted a review.

We have several here and they operate without attention after the initial set-up. This model comes with a nice software package that makes it easy to set up parameters. Options like how long you want it to wait before restoring system power after a power outage that lasted long enough to shutdown service.

One setting that is very useful was muting the various alarms. My wife is recovering from a stroke, and these APC electronic alarms sound the same as those in the Intensive Care Unit. The sound of a Chicken Little crying "Power is off! Power is off!" was too much like the cardio alarm for her serenity. So I turned off all the alarm sounds.

Personally, I've never had any trouble telling that line power is off, and the UPS has a data connection to your computer with software that initiates a graceful shutdown of all programs before the battery is exhausted. I couldn't see any loss of capability in turning off the sound. The console lights still annunciate everything you need to know -- if you have time to worry about the UPS in a power outage anyway. Mostly we have other things to do, so the important point is that the UPS operate without my holding its hand.

And these APC units do. Recommended manufacturer, and this model is one of the best in their consumer/small business line.

This is my third APC unit. My previous two units are still running, with new batteries, without problems. I think having a UPS/power conditioner on my computers is the main reason I haven't had a hardware based computer failure since the early 90's. I use my machine 10-12 hours per day.

It really doesn't have an attitude, it just is what it is. It works, its quiet, it has cool software. Within days of installing it, we had several power line glitches during computer operation, everthing else in the house was bonked but not the computer. What else can you say, it worked!
