5.0 out of 5 stars Expensive but good quality!
This heated birdbath seems to be well made and quite sturdy. The thermoplastic construction is attractive - resembles stone, but light weight. Fat squirrels have not been able to tip it yet!! The design is great as the extension cord goes up through the pedestal, keeping it hidden. The top threads onto the pedestal with a quick spin and stays put.

3.0 out of 5 stars A bit light, but gets the job done
A true Picasso...It looks great from far away, but once you get close, you can tell it's all plastic and cheaply made.

We live in a windy area and due to the fact that it was so light, we had to relocate the bird bath to our deck, and tie it to the fence....I was really hoping we could put it in our front yard, but we couldn't. For the price, I was expecting it...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product, December 28, 2010
Had over 2 feet of snow yesterday, but the birds were able to enjoy their warm bath. It looks great and works better than expected. I ordered mine from Blain's Farm & Feed. With shipping the total was $90.70. Kozy Bird Spa Heated Bath with Pedestal

4.0 out of 5 stars Well Made product/Basin Perhaps too Shallow, February 14, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The customer service in shipping the product was excellent. The product is very well made of dense resin. It is very easy to wipe clean and rinse. It perhaps is a bit awkward to fill the pedestal with sand after you run an extension cord up the pedestal in order to plug in the basin. After you plug in the basin you must push the cord bit down into the sand in order to screw the basin onto the pedestal. But it is not that difficult. The basin, though, is so shallow that you need to fill it every other day in order to keep water in it during cold weather. The heat of the basin evaporates the water. I wish the basin was a bit deeper but I like the product. It is functional and very good looking in the yard. And when the pedestal is filled with sand, it is very sturdy. Squirrels jump up on it all the time and it doesn't move.

Works as advertised. My birds really give this fountain a workout, they love it. It has been a rough cold winter here this year and this fountain has made life much easier for the birds at my feeding station. It holds about 3/4 of a gallon and will keep it from freezing. It looks nice except for a seam in the pedestal that is too wide. I will probably glue it this summer. It looks sorta like ganite and looks nice in the yard. I filled the pedestal about 3/4 full of sand to add some weight to it, and use a dark green extention cord to power it. I would buy this model again if I needed another fountain. Shipping was very fast.

4.0 out of 5 stars Heated Bird Bath a Warm Oasis, January 9, 2011

Very pleased with this product. Delivers as advertised. We have had birds visiting for drinks and bathing since we first set it up (which was very simple). Have had a -12F night and water stayed unfrozen. My only suggestion, and it's minor, is that the base could be somewhat wider to enhance stability. I did fill the pedestal about 3/4 full with sand, but with a bouncy dog it's still a bit shaky when she wants a drink!

5.0 out of 5 stars Heated Bird Bath, January 22, 2012

I purchased this product as a Christmas gift. It has now been tested in a variety of temperatures, +8 celsius to -40 celsius. The bath works well and its temparture is well controlled. The water has not frozen over in the coldest tempartures and the heating element cuts out when the temparture rises above freezing. I am overall pleased with this product. Time will dictate the longevity of this product. Hopefully it will give a number of years of good service.

Here in the cold northeast, our backyard birds have flocked (so to speak) to this heated birdbath to drink. One time I saw eight robins perched around it in a circle, taking sips. Just about all our backyard birds use it - cardinals, goldfinch, titmouse, and more.

The unit is well made and instructions were clear. Filling the base with sand (as suggested) added to the stability considerably. I like how the top screws onto the base, keeping it from toppling off when squirrels jump onto it. It's been stable in wind gusts of 40+ mph. The extension cords runs up through the base which is good for aesthetics.

My only complaint, which keeps me from rating the product 5 stars, is the way the internal thermostat seems to work. It does more than merely keep the water above freezing - it actually heats the water to 60 degrees, then lets it cool down to the 40s before switching back on (I tested it with an accurate instant-read thermometer). I'd prefer a more energy-efficient profile, but that's not a major concern. Overall we really like this and if it holds up over several seasons we'll be perfectly satisfied.

It's a birdbath. A nice birdbath. A heated birdbath. An expensive birdbath.

My bride wanted a birdbath to go with the birdfeeder in the backyard. I'm the bloke who ponied up for the heated option (external heaters for conventional birdbaths are out there; this appeared to be a more elegant solution).

The center of the bowl rises up so you get what amounts to a moat. Not sure of the purpose, just sayin'.

I will say this: make sure it's VERY level (use the water level in the bowl as your guide - no need for a level). If it's a bit off, it gets wobly. Should have had a broader base, in my opinion. Also, I'd set it on a firm surface (I'm using a piece of slate) rather than grass. Once I got it perfectly level, it was fine and has not tipped (squirrels, wind, etc.).

You will have to refill it every couple of days - evaporation and critters, combined with a low capacity, dictate that need. No big deal.
