3.0 out of 5 stars A New Version, August 16, 2005

This review is from: THE APOSTLES BIBLE: A MODERN ENGLISH TRANSLATION OF THE GREEK SEPTUAGINT (Paperback)
Esposito's contribution to the phraseology of the Septuagint
results in this edition being an "easy read" for those who wish
not to study Brenton's volume. This work follows closely to
Brenton's translation, which in turn seems to partially follow
the King James Version's mannerisms. Esposito occasionally inserts different words but still adheres to the meaning of the text. The book is rather large in size, 11" by 8 1/4" and 1 3/4" thick. It is unlikely that many will carry this book to their place of worship; but rather let it remain in their study rooms. One advantage is that the large size of this book ,which may lead to large print may help some users. There is no trace
of KJV mannerisms in this book.

I would recommend this book only to those who are interested in
a new slant of interpretation concerning the Septuagint. But
to those who prefer to use Brenton's volume, and like it, this
edition would not add much to their study efforts. However,
those who like truly easy reading that is clearly understood,
this is the Septuagint for you.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not authentic, May 2, 2005
This review is from: THE APOSTLES BIBLE: A MODERN ENGLISH TRANSLATION OF THE GREEK SEPTUAGINT (Paperback)
The editor has chosen not to include the 10 books of the so-called "Apocrypha", which was definitely read by the Holy Apostles. The NT even quotes from them! Without these books this becomes just another modern Bible following the Protestant tradition.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than Brentons for causal study., March 31, 2006
This review is from: THE APOSTLES BIBLE: A MODERN ENGLISH TRANSLATION OF THE GREEK SEPTUAGINT (Paperback)
I have had this for about 2 months and just love it. All the Brenton's volume's I looked at were just too hard to read due to the extremely small print and the way the Greek took up a little over 1/2 the page compared to the English translation.

I agree that the print is way too small for a book this size, and I also don't like the format (it is hard to find passages), but for those of us lay-people who want to read what Jesus and the Apostles used it is great. The NT translation has now replaced my NLT, and it is real close to replacing my WEB one as well. It is clear and clean, and it don't seem to have left out anything compared to my KJV.

As for the Apocrypha books, I am glad they are not included because it would have made the book WAY to big to hold at all! Maybe after they get it arranged and set up "proper" they can include them. Until then I grabbed a 2 book set from a seller on here called "The Missing Books Of The Bible" for less than $10. This 2 volume set includes all 15 of the books.

I recommend it, it is great!
