This review is from: APPALACHIAN CASESTUDY: UFO Sightings, Alien Encounters And Unexplained Phenomena VOL. 2 (Paperback)
Yes, I have to agree with the status quo on this one. It is nothing special. I was let down to see the book is a slim volume, easily read in a short time, without much detail, nothing to qualify the stories, and yes, the type is double spaced to take up the maximum amount of space. The illustrations are even just generic manipulated photos. No real research or scholarship here. Okay, I believe that most of these events happened, but Lovern does nothing to investigate the sightings, bring enlightenment to some of the sightings, and I am not impressed. In fact, I could have done as well, or even better to make this an entertaining, if not more compelling piece of nonfiction. What a let down. Not worth the cost of shipping.

Nothing Special,
This review is from: APPALACHIAN CASESTUDY: UFO Sightings, Alien Encounters And Unexplained Phenomena VOL. 2 (Paperback)
Bought this book (as well as volume one) after hearing Mr. Lovern interviewed on "Coast-to-Coast AM". For those keen on detailed investigation and/or analysis of UFO sightings, this book is not for you. The author relates the experiences of a couple dozen "average Joes" from the Appalachia region in short chapters, averaging 5-6 pages per story, written in a rather bland, white-bread style. Most of the stories are really not much more than transcripts of interviews with those claiming to have had UFO encounters.
I read the whole book is a little over an hour. It's roughly 150 pages long, but is double-spaced. I wouldn't call the book a particularly good value, even at Amazon's discounted price. Still, if you are either from or have an interest in the region, the book may be of more interest to you than the average UFO reader.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!,

I couldn't wait to read this, after enjoying the first volume, and I wasn't disappointed. The first-hand stories are entertaining and believable, the book is easy to read, and it's one of those you can't wait to finish. Although neither book tries to sensationalize the accounts, to purposely scare the reader, I found myself a little spooked from reading it (both volumes, actually.) It will make you stop and think, at least!
