APPLE PowerBook G4 (15" Aluminum) Main battery

I bought this battery as a spare for an upcoming flight across the Pacific. Upon opening the Amazon.com box, I found the battery in a clear plastic case, making it look brand new. The bottom of the battery (the part you see when it's attached to the laptop) was similar to the original Apple battery, but not exactly the same.

This battery has a shiny plastic coating over the "aluminum" finish. Good thing it's on the bottom.

Looking a little closer, I could see all kinds of scratches in that clear plastic, as well as the top of the battery (the side you don't see when the battery is installed).

I know there must be a few test benches for quality control, and the battery will have to be handled to be tested, but these scratches look more like someone used it for a year or two and sent it in to be replaced.

I would bet this is a factory refurbished battery, or simply a repackaged battery. Still checking how well it holds a charge.

My advice - don't buy it. Spend a few dollars more and get one direct from Apple or macsolutions.com. At least you'll get the real deal.

Bought battery with belief that it was an APPLE produced battery based on item description: APPLE PowerBook G4 15" (Aluminun) Main Battery. Upon receiving the battery it was obviously not Apple originated. Therefore, my Apple Protection Plan is negated.
