Find the Differences: Pirates is one of many "spot the difference" games from AR There really isn't much to say about this overcrowded genre, other than it is incredibly competitive on the Android OS. While other games of this type try to stand out by including countless pictures, achievements, the ability to zoom, and lots of other features; Find the Differences: Pirates does nothing.
Honestly, there is maybe 40 minutes of total gameplay here (would be less if not for some glaring errors that are probably built in to prolong gametime).

The Good:

- There are no permissions! Yaaaay! But this positive is ruined because of a point I will make below.

- Three difficulties to play around with, too bad they don't change the pictures...

- Hand drawn and bright.

The Bad:

- Terrible controls. Even if you spot the difference, selecting (touching) it is a chore because it has to be pressed at exactly the perfect area. Any deviation from this area results in a big X (fail).

- Poor design. Most of the differences in these pictures are poorly presented AND sometimes the difference will become obscured by the red circle that marks a correct guess.

- Only 13 pictures (26 if you count the ones with "differences"). Changing levels doesn't present you with more pictures, it just adds a timer.

- Overpriced at $1.99. Since these games are so easy to make, this genre is hyper competitive on the Android. Find the Differences: Pirates does nothing to justify its higher price point.

- Over too soon. You can "beat" this game in about 40 minutes.

Difficult to select differences. Touch controls appear to be off . Would consider purchasing for kids if controls were fixed. Adjustable difficulties is a plus.

4.0 out of 5 stars If its for kids? Why is it hard to select? September 19, 2012
Verified Purchase
I'm 35 & it took me an hour & 10 min to finish all 3 levels. However, most of the last 20 - 30 min of that was trying to click on a REALLY small difference in the last level. The big crab level also had a hard to select difference. Super frustrating being able to see where but not able to select it. I spent a lot of time trying to line up my finger, but when it finally did select it looked like it it might have been off a bit but yet a place I'd tried repeatedly. If they get that fixed I'd say its a good game, a bit short maybe. Total of 13 pictures that have 3 difficulty levels for each. The first 10 pictures are open but the last 3 need to be unlocked at 1st, 2nd & 3rd levels. On the 1st level, there are 5 differences to find at your own pace. The 2nd has 6 differences & the 3rd has 7, both require you to finish in 35 seconds (I think its seconds, it has 35 tick marks anyway.) Once you find everything, every level can be played again as the differences do switch around each time. The game has NO permissions, ads, or in app purchases, that's a big plus especially for kids. App takes up 14.12MB, but it does have nice bright graphics. At its current difficulty of selection, it seems like its a bit too much for the age group its targeting. I'm assuming 3 to maybe 7 since the startup screen said "My First Games." If they find the difference, small as it may be, they need to be able to select it in 2 or 3 tries at most not 37 (I ran out of time past that.) Aside from those 2 pictures at all 3 levels, that I had serious difficulty selecting, I found it mildly entertaining enough to stick with it till the end. I probably won't play it again but I have a 4 yr old niece & 7 yr old nephew who might like it.

This game works great on my Kindle Fire. The pictures look great too except for the spiders. They're really ugly! Thanks for the FAOTD.

3.0 out of 5 stars You must be deliberate when touching September 19, 2012

The controls are very fine, so on a phone its not the best.
The menu graphics are very slight, so it is difficult to see which levels are completed and which are not.

There are a few levels that rely on color perception so it is not colorblind friendly in that aspect.

There are 13 levels of 3 different difficulties, and that's about it. There are NO permissions to mess with so that's a * right off the bat.

Minus 1 star for the tiny menu interface, minus 1 star for lack of interest once completed.

The game kept freezing and the kids were upset. Wouldn't recommend it. Doesn't seem like much effort went into testing the final product.

As the headline states, this game is NOT for little kids. I got it so she had something to play with but ended up uninstalling it as even I found it difficult to play.

I put this game on my phone for my 5-year old grandson. We had a lot of fun figuring out the differences. The pictures are really cute and the game is not simple and it was fun finding the differences together.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good time killer.
Some of the differences are too subtle and small to see on a phone but it is still a fun time killer.
