Outstanding . . ., December 3, 2011

We are very pleased with this light. After a 3-week back-road camping trip in Baja California, this unit impressed us with its light output, low current draw and overall usefulness. The brightness isn't overwhelming but is easily sufficient for preparing meals in the dark, setting up camp in the dark and providing plenty of light (but not too much) for two to read by. If it's pointed in just the right direction, the light output is impressive. The extra hook in the middle of the bar is an excellent feature making it hang-able almost anywhere. The length of the cord and handy toggle switch near the light bar show that the designers really thought about how this light might be used. Although I don't remember this light as being advertised "waterproof", it performed flawlessly while setting up a tent in a real rainstorm.
An extra bonus is how little current the light draws. One night we had it on continuously for at least four hours and our battery pack showed a 90% charge the next morning. While no one wants to pay more than they need to for anything, it's nice to see that the folks at ARB have faith that serious overlanders will be willing to pay for innovative, quality products. Sure, this light isn't cheap. But when you're in the middle of nowhere, you won't mind paying extra for kit like this that gets the job done and (almost) makes you feel at home! We are going to buy another one for when we are traveling with others.

Very nice little light, March 7, 2011

This is a pretty nice 12v work light. The unit itself is 16" long overall and contains a total of 56 total LED bulbs. The power cord measures 16' (as mentioned in the ad) and the battery adapter adds almost another two feet in length. I wish some of my other 12v toys had alligator clips as nice as the battery attachments, they're solid and large enough to fit over most battery terminals.
The unit feels well built, something I'd expect from ARB. While the light isn't blinding, I just tried it out under my vehicle at night. It gives off more than enough light to work by. The picture shows one clip at the top of the unit. What you don't see is a second one on the back, allowing the user to hang it overhead and have the light shine downwards. Nice feature, and it seems well balanced. It also comes with a basic canvas bag that clips closed.
There are two small reasons why I didn't rate this as a five-star item. First, I'd like to have LED lights on both sides of the unit. I think this light would be much more functional if it cast light in all directions. Second, I'd also like to have a hanging point on the front of the light. This way if I'm under my vehicle, I could hang the light off the ground and still having light being shined where I need it. Of course, if there were LED lights on both sides of the unit, a second hanging point wouldn't be needed.
