Worth every penny July 30, 2004
The Arc AAA seems extremely expensive compared to the lights on the counter of your local hardware store or on the shelf at WalMart. That is, until you start to use it and realize its true value.

The Arc AAA is a small flashlight (think of a AAA battery with about 1/4 of an inch on top for the light) which is easily carried on a keychain or in a pocket or purse. The beauty of this is that you always have a flashlight with you when you need it. Whether you need to find a keyhole in the dark, look for something in a dark closet or corner of the basement, read something outside at night, or simply be prepared for a power failure, a flashlight is an amazingly useful tool. I didn't realize how useful until I started carrying the Arc AAA with me and found myself using it at least several times each week.

As far as the Arc AAA, it is constructed from machined aluminium and it is extremely rugged. The finish on the outside will not rub off or scratch, even when carried in a pocket with coins and keys. The head of the flashlight, which is sealed with a gasket to make it water proof simply screws off to enable changing the universally available AAA battery. Turning the head all the way tight is how to turn the light on... no risk of a button accidentally being pushed and draining your battery. The head turns with a high precision feel.

Construction of the Arc AAA is first rate... so is the quality of the light. The white light has very little of the bluish tint typical to other LED lights. In a dark area when your eyes are acclimated to the dark the light has an amazingly long throw beam (50+ feet of useful light) for such a tiny flashlight. The light keeps its brightness fairly steady over the 4-6 hour battery life, although it is noticably dimmer right before the battery gives out. For those not familiar with LED light sources, it is an amazing technology (and in 10 years or so will be common everywhere from automobiles to our homes) which has far higher efficiency than tradational incandescent lights and almost unlimited bulb life. They also burn cooler and are extremely rugged. On your Arc AAA this translates into 10,000+ hours of "bulb" life, which is more or less a lifetime of heavy usage. Also you never have to worry about the bulb burning out at the wrong time or it being damaged if you drop the light.

When you consider the quality construction, the usefulness of the Arc's light output and the value of always having a reliable flashlight with you it is worth every penny. There is also the satisfaction of owning a high quality, precision tool which stands in stark contrast to much of the disposable products avaliable nowdays. I'd recommend the Arc AAA to anyone. It's worth the wait or the search to find ont... they are really that good.

Worth the money July 16, 2004
First of all, you need to have an understanding of the size of this flashlight. Take a AAA battery and extend it to 2.7 inches. That's about the size of the flashlight. It's rugged, waterproof and will never fail you like non-led lights.

What about the light output? Those little keychain lights that people are fond of? They're bright when they're first turned on with a new battery but fade very fast (within tens of minutes). The Arc AAA is as bright as the little keychain lights when they're first turned on, AND it will run for another 5 hours with the same light level. This is known as regulation and you will love the fact that it will not dim.

Another advantage over the keychain light is that this runs on easy to find AAA batteries. No more scrounging around for tiny coin cell batteries to power this. Most of the time I wear mine on a lanyard around my neck. It's small enough that I don't ever notice it, yet big enough for me to use as a proper flashlight.

The light itself uses a twist of the head to turn it on so you'll have constant light as opposed to the squeeze keychain lights. Lastly, it comes with a 10 year warranty which you will probably never need. Did I mention it's durable? My friend has had it in a pocket with tons of keys and there's not but a scratch on it.

If you want to buy something you can be happy with and feel absolutely no buyers remorse about, buy this flashlight.

the arc aaa is the king of small flashlights designed for keychain and pocket use.

bright enough to easily navigate dark areas or light up a map, but not so bright that it drains the battery before you're done using it . it's a perfect blend of size, output, and runtime, all in an attractive and durable package.

built so tough that the lifetime warantee is practically useless, this light will take whatever you put it through, and in all honesty, it will probably outlast you.
i've carried mine every single day (have literally never left home without it), for over 2 years, and it works just as well today as it did when i first bought it.
it's been through the washer, drier, dishwasher, freezer, off a 2 story roof (onto concrete), and is reguarly used as a file, all without barely a scratch.

if you appreciate quality tools, and are looking for a light to be there whenever you need it, the arc is what you're looking for!

also check out the other great products from arc, including the arc4 and the arc ls lines.
