ARK-EOLOGY: A True Anthology of Chad and Jeremy,

What's not to like about "ARK-EOLOGY"? First, the CD cover is one of the best I've seen in years. The painting was chosen as the cover by Chad Stuart who found out that the artist Robert McCauley was ironically a Chad and Jermey fan. Forty years ago Chad and Jeremy put out their last album for Columbia Records, the very underrated "The Ark". Hence the title "ARK-EOLOGY". Instead of releasing alternative versions of their hit songs, like "The Beatles" did for their "Anthology" CD's or creating another "Greatest Hits" CD package like most groups do, both Chad and Jeremy decided to re-record various classic songs from their 60's catalogue giving the listener a true perspective of their career. As much as I love their dated 60's record productions, Chad Stuart's new arrangements on the whole improve most of the songs I've heard like "In Love Again" and "Rest In Peace". Chad and Jeremy WERE and STILL are true folk artists and it was great to hear them return to their roots which makes them one of the best duos ever. Their voices are actually better now then they were in the 60's which makes this CD a pleasant listening experience.

I still long for the old arrangements.....,

I have been in love with these guys forever....I also think Distant Shores is one of the greatest love songs ever written or sung.....but having said that I longed for the old arrangements after I listened to this new cd. I may have to listen to it a bit more to get the same feelings I get when I listen to the old versions....but I'm so happy that they are still together and recording.

Still the best!,

This is a beautiful album, and as individual as the artists themselves. Most of the songs were written by Chad and Jeremy, and are taken from other albums, but re-recorded, and the sound quality is superb. It must have been very difficult choosing which to use, and even harder to decide which to leave out, because they have such a strong portfolio of their own songs. Their voices are still so warm and harmonious and the guitar playing is breathtaking. The CD case is nicely presented, a three fold package with pictures of the old albums from which the songs are taken, and really attractive covers. You won't be disappointed.

History making sound,

Absolutely the best. A combination of the best song works with the best recording / mastering. The quality of sound in this new recording is like going from a 1960's made in Japan transistor radio to current day 7:1 surround mega watt system on superior speakers ( like; Altec Lansing Voice of the Theater of yesteryear ). Heavenly Harmonies, to say the least. This CD is in my top 6 rotation. This is like back to the future. Classic past combined with the modern day marvels of music making. Enjoy!

Chad Stuart, over the past ten years has overseen the music catalog of Chad & Jeremy with great care. For a number of years now, Chad has released Fan Club records of the duo, that feature reworked arrangements of old tunes and brand new songs. I have purchased a few of these discs, and have really enjoyed them.
This latest CD follows the normal pattern of reworked material, that has been produced and performed with perfection. With: "Summer Song", "September in the Rain", and "Yesterday's Gone" all the big hits are here, sounding better than ever. Instead of new songs, this time out C & J, are using album tracks from their sixties albums, and spotlighting them along side the hits. Sparkling versions of: "When And If I Can", "Rest In Peace", "The Ark", and "Distant Shores" are wonderful examples of good pop music can be when performed by the masters. With acoustic guitars, piano, orchestrations and perfect harmony, these artists have barely lost an ounce of steam in the past four decades. If I had a wish, it would be to hear some of Chad & Jeremy's new songs and that amazing version of "Purple Haze" that they perform at shows in 2009. Chad & Jeremy are no: Nostalga Package of the 1960's. But, they are a vibrant and experienced duo of musicans who know how to entertain young & old folks alike, in the old fashion tradition.....With talent and class. 4.5 Stars!!!

Chad and Jeremy's self-produced album is a brilliant re-visiting of some of the best songs from the early days to the last album of their first collaboration. It may not be called "The Very Best of Chad and Jeremy", but I think that's what it is! If you only know them from "Summer Song", check this one out, you'll find it's much more than sweet sunshiny pop: great voices, great chemistry, you can tell they enjoyed making it. And no mere compilation-rehash this - it's a new, fresh take on some old favourites and some not-so-well-known tracks, and it fairly zings.

Downloads are fantastic, but nothing beats a proper album with art and liner notes (from Chad!) and music credits that you can hold and play and love. Arkeology is perfectly produced and so, so wonderful to listen to.
If you are already a Chad and Jeremy fan, rest assured you are not wasting your money. And yes, the money play -- A Summer Song -- is there along with Yesterday's Gone and Distant Shores, but you're also getting some of their best covers and original songs, some newly arranged, from past albums. I love it to bits. ARK-eology delivers -- in spades. You will not be disappointed. To anyone reading this who may be unfamiliar with Chad and Jeremy. These two guys are a class act whose hit, A Summer Song, is one of the prettiest ballads written and much beloved by those of us lucky enough to have heard it when it was first released. A terrific reworking of songs that span an under appreciated career. Maybe 2009 will see all new material. It is good to have C & J back!
