5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect holder for my TomTom GPS
Works exactly as advertised. Stays put on the dash exactly where I place it, even through sharp turns and strong braking. Holds my TomTom GPS device perfectly--easy to affix, adjust, and remove. Make sure to pay attention to the version, as this specifies the mount for the exact make and model of the GPS device--I had to go to another website to figure this out...

This is a friction mount that stay puts. Like all friction based (bean bag) mounts if will slide forward if you have to really slam on the breaks, but for normal driving situations, it stays in one place. It seems well constructed and is very easy to adjust.

It comes with a large weighted platform that is very grippy. The platform is stiff and will not conform to contours of the dash, like some other, floppier, mounts I've used. If you have a dash that has rounded contours, this could be an issue., You really need a flat area, the width of the base on your dash for this to work well. They also provide a safety hook, that you can attach to your dash with an adhesive backing. This hook then attaches to a small loop on the back of the mount. This is intended to keep the GPS from falling on the floor if you accelerate rapidly. This is a nice safety feature but does have a downside. It makes it a little harder to put the unit on your dash, or remove it, when you park in a public place. Nothing major, but hooking/unhooking just adds another step to this process.

This will take up some real estate on your dash. At its widest part, the mount is about 8 inches wide. Much wider that other dashboard mounts I've used. This makes it more stable, but make sure you have the room on your dash.

The GPS attaches to an adjustable jointed arm. The arm, if extended would place bottom of the GPS over 4" above your dash. I'm not sure why you'd want the GPS up that high, but they must have felt someone would. Because it is adjustable, you can make it lower than this, but then it extends outward.

I only have a couple of complaints, hence the 3 stars. First, because the arm is so long, the unit can pick up road vibrations and bounce around slightly

My big complaint is the mechanism that attaches the GPS to the arm. It is based on the standard TomTom mounting ring, but it is not as secure as the mount that TomTom supplied. I've had the GPS rotate slightly (clockwise or counterclockwise) as I drive. It is easy to straighten, and it does not happen on every trip, but it can be annoying. What is worse is that I have had the GPS actually fall off the mount when I hit a large bump (like a speed bump). To be fair I have a 4x4 ,with a stiffer suspension, and it only happened once, but still, having the GPS come off the mount when you hit a bump is not ideal (note, this was on the road, I was not "off-roading"). It also has come off when I just moved the power cord, for example to move it out of the way of the radio controls. It only takes just a slight tug on the cord, which can happening when you are moving it, and suddendly you're reaching on the floor, trying to see where the GPS landed. The mount just doesn't snap in as securely as the OEM mount. Because of this I no longer use the supplied arm. Instead I now use the mount that came with my TomTom, and stick in the ARKOM base. This actually works very well.

I've owned several GPS mounts over the years, and none is perfect. This one is worth of consideration. If it were not for the fact that the GPS can be so easily dislodged from the mount, I probably give this a much higher rating.

I purchased the Arkon Mount for use with a TomTom XXL 550M with a 5" screen. The comments are only about the mount. It is well made and has a wide range of angles that can be of great use, but the mount has one major drawback. It allows the GPS to bounce and vibrate making it very difficult to read street names on the screen. Very annoying anomaly. If had it to do over I would look elsewhere for a more stable mount. Sorry Arkon!

5.0 out of 5 stars PHENOMENAL, August 12, 2010

This review is from: ARKON TTEP112 TomTom EasyPort Friction Dash Mount (Electronics)
I just purchased this, because the standard suction cup my Tom Tom came with completely wore out. Also, I live in CA and am not supposed to be mounting my GPS on my windshield to begin with.

Just one word to describe this product, PHENOMENAL. It is a shame that Arkon doesn't do a better job of marketing and selling their line of products into the brick and mortor stores. In my opinion the value of this product is way more than the $23 I paid. It is a complete and utter travesty that Arkon products are not hanging in the GPS isles at Target, Walmart, and Best Buy.

This thing is rock solid. Does not budge while the suction cup is engaged. And you can tell from the way the material the suction cup is made out of flexes that it is going to last light years longer than the standard Tom Tom suction cup. It has made owning my Tom Tom a much more pleasant experience than it has for the last 6 months ever since the standard suction cup mount wore out.

Even better, it works perfectly with the original circular plastic piece for dash mounting that my Tom Tom came with. Meaning, although everyone in their reviews here has loved the actual Arkon friction mount this came with (which I don't doubt is very functional), it's even better when used with the little circular plastic piece the Tom Tom shipped with. Nothing buldging from the dash and I don't have to worry ever that anything is going to slip or slide on the dash. Just a clean look, with my Tom Tom right there securely fastened to the dash, within perfect reach, and in perfect view.

Buy this mount PERIOD! You won't regret it.

Actually, you'll be like me and will be wondering why you didn't purchase it sooner!

Finally, one of these weighted friction jobs that doesn't slide around. Also, because the weighted collar wraps around only 270 degrees, I can set the GPS low so the view through the windshield isn't blocked. The suction cup has held for 2 months now without having to be re-stuck.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product, February 22, 2010

Works exactly as advertised. Heavy base with additional clip on back make this immovable, which i had problems with before with the factory included mounting device. No matter where i put it, Tom Tom constantly fell down while i was driving, causing me to stop using it altogether. Finally the spring assisted clamp assembly popped off so then I couldn't use it anyway, which is what caused me to seek out alternative mounting devices. This one is worth every penny, don't hesitate to purchase.

1.0 out of 5 stars Didn't work at all for my Tom Tom XXL 540TM, January 26, 2011

This review is from: ARKON TTEP112 TomTom EasyPort Friction Dash Mount (Electronics)
This device was clearly inadequate for the Tom Tom 540 XXL series GPS. I would attach the device and it would simply fall over - mounting and all. It wasn't strong enough to hold up the GPS AND remain on the dashboard at the same time!

Great Product. This mount never slips or slides. Rock steady. The mount TOMTOM should have made for their units.

THis mount stayed put in a variety of situations. Hard breaking etc. I would recomend this for anyone using a GPS in their vehicle. Makes for easy removal when parking and easy to put back when getting ready to use again.
