5.0 out of 5 stars ARRL Handbook 2010
Already with a 2009 handbook in my library I felt a fair amount of reluctance to buy the 2010 edition. But the promise of fresher material, more information, and a nice price cut to roll the puppy out and start the buzz moved me to purchase the "ARRL Handbook for Radio Communications 2010." Already with a 2009 handbook in my library I felt a fair amount of reluctance to buy the 2010 edition. But the promise of fresher material, more information, and a nice price cut to roll the puppy out and start the buzz moved me to purchase the "ARRL Handbook for Radio Communications 2010." After reviewing the massive volume I deem the outlay as money well spent. It made a good addition to my ham shack. The 2010 handbook differs from prior yearly editions in not recycling massive amounts of the same old material or cut-and-pasting work out of QST. This 2010 edition also shows better production and editing attention than some recent ARRL publications. If you don't own a handbook, but do maintain a passion, temperament, or inclination to use amateur radio, and if you possess the cash to comfortably do so, no question about it, you should get a copy of this book. If you are a ham and have one, say no more than five years old, your level and type of involvement will be your guide. If you are into new radio and antenna designs, use new techniques, or want to upgrade your own knowledge of the once esoteric modes that rapidly become bread-and-butter in amateur radio, then I'd suggest this handbook constitutes a reasonable purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid reference, US units a little jarring, April 10, 2010

The ARRL Handbook for radio communications is the best reference manual I've ever used for electronics and amateur radio use. The chapters are well laid out, the index is good and the effort that has gone into keeping the text up to date (D-STAR etc) has not gone unnoticed.

That said, the use of US customary units (feet, inches, AWG etc) without including metric equivalents in many chapters is a little jarring for those of us who aren't accustomed to working in them.

A solid reference that should be a part of any amateur radio operator or electronics enthusiast's bookshelf.

This review is from: The ARRL Handbook for Radio Communications (Paperback)
To be a good HAM operator you need to be educated and have a full understanding of what radio is all about. This book is the best reference manual I have in my library. You cannot go wrong with anything ARRL puts out.

5.0 out of 5 stars The definitive guide for anybody interested in radio's technical foundations, September 17, 2010

This review is from: The ARRL Handbook for Radio Communications (Paperback)
I don't work in the radio industry although have had a life-long fascination with the topic. If you've ever wondered how radio works, and I mean truly works from a technical perspective, this book is required reading. It is simply massive in scope, covering topics such as electronic theory fundamentals, antenna design, electronic component design, and much, much, much more.

Apparently a new edition of this book is revised and released annually, and it shows. The quality of writing and attention to detail is obvious from the first page.

Highly recommended, and I'd imagine an indispensable resource for anybody interested in making a career or hobby out of radio.

This is the first edition I bought since the 1975 editon. It is a great update to that old one with the both of best worlds a CD edition for almost instant reference and a print edition for study.

The purchase of the my ARRL 2010 Handbook which is known as the Amateur's bible of radio was one of my latest best book purchases and an update to the much earlier one that I possess. I recommend this book to anyone interested in radio or any of its related topics, I have also purchased the ARRL Antenna book from Amazon.

This book continues to be the standard reference book for wireless communication. It covers everything you could need to know from the basic knowledge to complicated equations relating to all aspects of wireless communication. Questions on antennas, circuits, fundemental operating procedures, modes of transmission/reception, and tables of componet values are all included in this one book. It also includes a CD that can loaded onto your computer. Outstanding in all aspects and at a bargin price for so much knowledge in one book. I have found that all the publications from the ARRL are wonderful reference books. Highly recommend. AK4RL
