In general, these are the best tool ever. I was impressed by the low price on this one, but, as usual, you get what you pay for. The fit of the blade to the handle is poor. Find a better one elsewhere, because a hori hori IS indispensable. Cuts through roots, stays sharp, doesn't rust. Works in any soil---rocky, clay, if you have difficult soil, you want this tool. I've given lots of these as gifts to fellow gardeners and they all rave about it and wonder how they lived without it. They work great for digging potty holes when backpacking, too. (Heavier that the plastic spades, but worth the weight.) If you leave your tools laying around, you may want to spray-paint the handle a bright color.

I read all the reviews I could on these Hori Hori knives! I have been using mind to dig into rocky clay to extract crab grass. I can not believe how sturdy these knives are. I was striking the ground with full swings and hitting hard pan and rocks! The knife did not care! The sheath is CHEAP. The serration on the knife cuts through tree limbs and roots. The curve is good for fertilizer, and dirt scooping. With a good 1" bye pass pruner, and this tool you can get most things done to maintain your beds and boarders.

The tool works like any other Hori Hori, but the workmanship on the handle is very poor. The wood was crushed by the rivets and the resulting splintered wood wasn't trimmed and smoothed, so the handle had splinters sticking out. The clear coat on the handle was over applied and ran. The finish coat dried in big blobs making the handle rougher still. I've bought better quality ones for about the same money.
