Have to admit that this seemed like a high price for a pruning saw, but once I saw how fast it cuts and how totally smooth (= fast healing) the cuts were, I decided it's worth every penny. The curved blade makes it much easier to cut one limb without sawing off part of another at the same time. A marvelous tool. Oh, and when I needed to trim a 2 by 4 to length in a hurry last week, it took care of that job very nicely as well.

At Home Depot, I bought a Fiskar's folding saw that is a similar price and size. This Japanese-made ARS saw is much better. I also have an electric chain saw, but it is almost always easier and simpler to use this handsaw.

I do a lot of trimming on our property & this little saw works great. The handle is comfortable with smaller hands & I like the fact that it folds up, as this saw is very sharp. This was a good buy!

We've been using these ARS GR-17 pruning saws around the farm and forest for over 10 years. We keep one on each tractor, in each car, and in several other spots around the farm. Blades last a long time. Finally after 3 or 4 years of hard use I buy a bunch of replacement blades. It has a rubberized grip handle that, when folded, stays pretty much in your pants pocket. Admittedly, I've lost a few over the years but this is the model I come back to.

This little saw doesn't play. 2 or 3 pulls and presto, it is done.My first pruning saw and I am impressed. Have only used for a month now, but blade is still quite sharp. Although I got a bargain for it, I would have paid much more knowing the quality.

My arm strength isn't what it used to be, but with this tool, I feel invincible! Folds easily and I stick it in my pocket until needed again. It took me a while, with a few rest times, but I was able to cut down an old Alberta spruce about 4" diameter, flush to the ground! I found myself looking for more stuff to saw.

I can't say enough good things about this saw. Initially, I had to loosen the bolt on the blade so I could open it more easily, but after that, it was a delight to work with. Like most good saws, it cuts as you pull it back to you, so the blade is thinner than some, but it's not a bad thing at all. The grip is comfortable both for me, and my instructor, and our hands are very different sizes. The blade locks closed, so it won't open by accident in the bottom of your gear bag, which is wonderful considering how sharp it is.I spent several months cutting bamboo (brutal on sawblades) with this guy, and I'm still the envy of my classmates. It's a great little tool.

My rating is based on a combination of performance and price. The performance is adequate; the blade manages to cut through branches and does so about as well as my $10 bow saw from a big-box hardware store. This saw can fit in narrower places, but only about as well as the $5 Black Friday special I got at the same big box. The ARS blade is somewhat flimsy, and the handle to blade angle makes sawing something of a chore in some positions. If the saw cost less than $15, I might give it 3 stars. The price is horrendous. I suppose some people pay more for saws so view this as a bargain, but my price point is a lot lower. I got this expecting it to do more than my other saws, and it doesn't. If you have money to burn, this might be the saw for you. There may not be many saws out there that are all that much better, but there are definitely ones as good for less than 1/3 the price.

This is the first pruning saw that I have owned, but I am quite happy with it. It seems to be well designed and easy to use. It is sharp as the dickens and it made quick work of trimming small (less than 5 cm diam.) branches from roses and lorapetalum.
