Deliciousness!,

While I've only used it for one song so far, I'm incredibly impressed. I bought it to warm up my voice - an otherwise cold, dreary and lifeless affair - and it does just that. I can't tell you how many times I kept re-recording the same line; not because I messed up, but because I wanted to keep hearing my own voice through this thing.I cranked up the input gain and barely opened up the output to record into my Zoom MRS 1044. Absolutely beautiful result. I've heard some reviewers say that this unit is best used as a subtle touch, but I like the full on tubey sound. I bought this unit for $80 from a local music store. So for a little over half the price of a Presonus TubePre (and a fraction of the cost of most other mic pres) it fricken' rocks. I haven't tried it with other instruments or even with other voices, but I'm thoroughly impressed with the results of what I bought it for. I will update the review later when I've used it for a wider variety of applications but for now, I highly recommend it. *TIP I read this on some online forum; USE THE PHASE REVERSE when you are monitoring your voice through earphones while singing. This is because for some reason the sound vibrations in your skull that you hear conflict with the audio signal and you are more likely to sing slightly off-key. But if you use the phase reverse, it fixes this issue and you will sound like God. Peace, y'all!

Useful, but shoddy construction,

I bought this to help the sound of a Shure SM-57 mic. There were some improvements, and it more or less did what I expected of it, though nothing remarkable. However, I recently hooked it up to do some recording and found that it has become a serious noise source. I've never dropped it, just maybe shuffled it around a bit with some other equipment. It *looks* fine, but is now unusable because of the noise. (I traced the noise to the unit by trying different cables and inputs and amps.) Find something more solid.

Pros:Great product for those who requires amplify a dynamic mic.We use for vocals in a karaoke system with excellent results. It doesn't requires expensive microphones. With cheaper mics produces good sound. Cons: The preamp doesn't has a power on/off switch so you must to plug/unplug the DC adapter. It is a little expensive but works fine.

I tried this preamp with a guitar and a bass guitar...I did not see much improve with the guitar, maybe a little warmer sound but nothing that you may not reach with some guitar pedals (reverb, chorus...). On the bass it sounded great because it gives you tighter and warmer tones. I still have not test it with vocals.

Gratuitous bells and whistles to a quality preamp that doesn't need them,

Many audio enthusiasts--or even "sound engineers"--may be overlooking the superior value in a tube microphone preamp with limiter settings (but no presets). It's the "non-V3" ART Tube MP Studio Microphone Preamp and Limiter. In Amazon search box, simply insert:ART Tube MP Studio Mic Preamp This "non-V3" model (currently going for under 30) doesn't have as many knobs, but it's solidly built and has never failed me in the nearly 3 years I've used it to provide phantom power for condenser mics or other power adjustments to mics that require them. The added "voicing" knob of the pictured model means more time-consuming tweaking with little change to the quality of the boosted sound. Moreover, with the absence of the extra, large knob on the "non-V3" model, there are fewer possibilities of breakage of the instrument in an audio bag jammed with mics, cables, connectors, and other devices. Finally, the price of the "non-V3" model is currently less than half that of the pictured model, with an extra knob that strikes me as more like a ten-dollar improvement (assuming the user finds it an improvement).

Great little preamp,

This little preamp does everything it says it will do. The sound quality that comes out adds a natural sounding resonance that has real depth to it. I use it with a Heil PR22 mike and my voice has never sounded better. I would enthusiastically give it a "5" but the lack of an on/off switch is perplexing and inconvenient. There must be some explanation?

This device allows me to warmup the sound of cold solidstate equipment to tube sounding nirvana I can adjust and tweak and it has positions you can switch too for just about any instrument or mic that might not be a tube mic or anything in between every person who owns a home studio or would like to make demos sound more professional should own one there are many already who already know its true!!!

This does work quite well and the level meter is very helpful. This added so much more depth and warmth to male and female vocals. It's also an amazing little tool to use as a pre-amp for your guitars. I haven't had any issues. The only thing I don't like about it is a lack of an on/off switch. You have to unplug it to cut the power. Also, it gets very hot when on... expected but worth mentioning.

When you try to switch the EQ knob sometimes it won't switch as fast, sometimes you have to do it again and it will switch. Overall I love this product and it does have a warm sound to it. I have the rhode NT-1a and wow I couldn't ask for more. Best product, I highly recommend it.
