5.0 out of 5 stars An easy-to-follow, colorful book
Horse Drawing Studio is the perfect activity kit for budding artists with a passion for equines! Horses have long been notoriously difficult to draw (let alone animate); Horse Drawing Studio simplifies the process by providing two possible horse models with stand, a set of drawing tools (six pastels, four colored pencils, a graphite pencil, a smudger, and an eraser) and a...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great for the right child
We got this for our 6 yo for Christmas. A few month's later, the stand for the large horse is broken making positioning all but impossible and the small horse has suffered numerous dislocated legs. The baby horse met its end with a broken neck.

So is this a bad item? I'm not sure (hence the 3 stars). I would say it is more parent be-aware. While our daughter...

Horse Drawing Studio is the perfect activity kit for budding artists with a passion for equines! Horses have long been notoriously difficult to draw (let alone animate); Horse Drawing Studio simplifies the process by providing two possible horse models with stand, a set of drawing tools (six pastels, four colored pencils, a graphite pencil, a smudger, and an eraser) and a "Saddle Up!", an easy-to-follow, colorful book that walks one through the process of drawing and coloring horses. Highly recommended not just for children, but also for novice artists of all ages out to capture the spirit of the equine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Making drawing and learning fun!, October 22, 2009

When I first opened the Art lab horse drawing studio box and saw the two posable horse models I was delighted. I only regret that this product did not exist when I was a child, who knows, I might have been an artist. Mary Iverson's book is filled with information to satisfy the quest for knowledge of an older child and at the same time it is well illustrated and fun that a younger child can understand and enjoy it too. This product is great for home schoolers that have a child that loves horses. Friends that have seen my art lab for horses have already ordered their own as gifts for their horse crazy nieces.

So is this a bad item? I'm not sure (hence the 3 stars). I would say it is more parent be-aware. While our daughter loves drawing/art, she couldn't help but to play with them even though she has many other horses to do so with. Did that lead to the breakage problems? In the case of the stand - yes. In the case of the baby horse - no. That was just poorly constructed.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed with quality, August 24, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: ARTLAB: Horse Drawing Studio (SmartLAB) (Paperback)
I bought this for my horse lover/artist daughter for her birthday. By looking at the pictures, I assumed that the horse statues were wooden, like those pose-able wooden people art figures. I never read anything about them being plastic. So, I was disappointed having paid so much for something made with such cheap materials. In addition to this, the back leg of the small horse was off when it arrived. The legs of the little one kept falling off. It was a simple matter of snapping it back on, but again, CHEAP for the price I paid. We were also disappointed that she couldn't pose the neck on both horses.

On the positive side, my daughter did enjoy posing the horses to the extent that they would allow.

In my opinion...save your money, unless you can get it for $5 or less. To me, that is all it is worth.
