5.0 out of 5 stars Another excellent component from Athena
I've owned the previous version of this sub (AS-P4000) for quite some time now and love it's tight, crisp response. The 4000 has a very high performance/price ratio. When I decided to add a sub to my downstairs setup (2 WS-100s, 1 WS-60 center and 2 WS-15 surrounds) I decided on the 4100 since the 4000 is no longer available. The only difference I can see is cosmetic...

3.0 out of 5 stars Price was right...
I needed a sub-woofer for my 5.1 system until I could build my ultimate one. It was ok for the price and will now be moved to my computer room so it was a good purchase.

The only difference I can see is cosmetic although the SCT control is no longer marked for easy matchup to other Athena speakers (contrary to the documentation). So far, so good. It has performed identically to the "proven" AS-P4000 that it replaced.

p.s. The Amazon image is the 4000, not the 4100.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great low end sound from this down-firing subwoofer, April 9, 2008

The AS-P4100 made an impressive addition to my home theater. This down-firing subwoofer allows you to not only hear, but feel the bass, and the auto on/off feature works great as well.

Pros: Excellent low end sound reproduction for both movie watching and music. During movies you can feel the rumbling from explosions in full effect with this Athena sub without sounding muddy or distorted.

Cons: The only negative I can think of is that it comes with floor spikes that require it to be placed on a carpet, so you will need something at least 15" by 10" to put underneath it if you don't have carpeting.

Other Thoughts: I've only owned this subwoofer for two months now and use it daily, there hasn't been any reliability issues with it (so far).

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent sub for the price., September 17, 2008

This sub has more than enough power for your home-theatre/PC needs. (I have it dialed down to "2/10" for my small 150 sq. foot room. Any higher setting and it overpowers my Behringer studio monitors.) The response is tight and crisp and the build quality is high. Worth every penny of the 150USD I paid for it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shakes the room!, January 10, 2007
This review is from: AS-P4100 400 Watt 10-inch Subwoofer (Electronics)
I have had this Sub for 6 months and have to keep the volume on 2 or it shakes the room, havent had it any higher than 4. I feel that maybe the other guy on here had some bad luck with his Sub and I hope he can get a new one because this really is a great Sub.

2.0 out of 5 stars Reliability Issues and Nonexistant Warranty Service, December 27, 2006
By
This review is from: AS-P4100 400 Watt 10-inch Subwoofer (Electronics)
Beware! Athena makes good speakers but the amps that come with their subwoofers are not entirely reliable. Mine recently lost over 90% power while still under warranty. Because Athena was acquired by Klipsch, they are supposedly moving their service centers. I am preparing to escalate the issue with Athena, as their contractors have so far left me without a working sub. With all of the shipping costs and the hassle, and not being able to use a sub, i regret purchasing the Athena. I recommend the Bic H-100 as a quality, inexpensive alternative that seems to have good product support. If I don't soon get my Athena fixed, i will be buying one myself. You can research more about Athena subs at avsforums.

2 stars because if it works the sub is better than what you normally get for the price range (though the H-100 is much better)

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Sound, But Broke, February 16, 2008
This review is from: AS-P4100 400 Watt 10-inch Subwoofer (Electronics)
I got the 8000 version of this sub (800 watts) and the quality was amazing! I never turned the nob up past 5 out of 10 because it would make an earthquake! haha Anywise, after having it for about 2 years it broke. Warrenty just ran out like 2 weeks earlier, but Athena fixed it anywise. After about 6 months later it broke again. Now trying to find replacement. Bottom line it sounded awesome, but seemes to brake a lot. :/
