3.0 out of 5 stars Not a Wide Shoe
This is a beautiful shoe but didn't fit me. I have really wide feet and bought these hoping that they would fit. They were too narrow even though I ordered a wide size. It's too bad, they really looked nice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great support for intense training, July 4, 2010

I needed to find better shoes to use with P90X (especially Plyo). I was using running shoes, but they're made to support with forward motion, not side to side or vertical jumps. My husband did a lot of research, which led to these shoes. They are supportive, have just the right amount of bounce, and don't shift in any direction. They have enough mesh fabric to let your feet breathe, and they are very comfortable. I've been using them for several months for weightlifting, plyometrics, and kenpo, and have no regrets.

These are the shoes my husband ended up getting: ASICS Men's GEL-Intensity Training Shoe

This review is from: ASICS Women's GEL-160TR Training Shoe (Apparel)
I bought this shoes without being able to try them on but I have another pair of Asics so I knew what size I had in the other ones. If you've never owned Asics they tend to run about 1/2 to a full size small, i usually wear an 8.5 or 9 in most other training shoes and in Asics i have to get a 9.5. Also when i first tried these on I thought the regular might have been too tight through the toes but after the first couple times I wore them I was glad I got the regular instead of the wide. The insoles of these are also removable, so if you have your own orthotics you will be able to put them in these shoes. Overall I'm very happy with my purchase of these shoes.

4.0 out of 5 stars a little narrow, April 3, 2010

I usually wear a size 9E or 9EE. I have a very wide forefoot, a very high arch, and kind of narrow heel. I like the Asics gel shoes because they are very very soft and cushiony but I have found that there is never enough room in the toebox with any of this brand's styles. I would say that Asics in general run about one size more narrow then other brands and there wasn't quite enough height in the toebox of the 160Tr either because I could feel the seam of the shoe on top of my second to last toe when I tried these on. I have purchased Asics a half size larger before (9.5) and that did solve my width problems but when I ran in them my foot would slide back and forth within the shoe. I have lessened the amount of sliding by purchasing a slightly longer shoestring and just using the final lace hole by the ankle when I tie my shoes. It's a lot of work for a shoe that doesn't quite fit but I like the sole so much I am usually willing to put up with the narrow fit for the advantage of a softer run.

Also there is no mesh on this shoe, instead it is all leather. I think it would get a little hot but if you don't live in Georgia you may want an all leather shoe that helps keep you warm.

These shoes are excellent for group exercise classes. I use them for BodyPump, Zumba and Step. They have great support and my feet do not hurt after workouts. I would highly suggest these shoes.

So far so good - decent cushioning - good support - I have low arches and need a bit more support in my mid-sole. Use indoors only for weightlifting, cardio classes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Such a great fit!, April 15, 2010

So nice to find a shoe that comes in 10.5. Most good workout shoes only come in 10 or 11. This one doesn't make your foot look like an ocean liner, and it really feels comfortable. Great support when jogging on the tread mill and working out in the gym.

5.0 out of 5 stars Asics Womens Gel-160TR, July 20, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I had been a loyal New Balance customer for years, but after reading Consumer Report's review of the Asics Gel-150 I decided to give the Gel-160 a try (basically because I couldn't get the 150 anymore). What a great shoe! I was looking for cushioning and stability and a shoe that wouldn't slide off my heel during lunges and this shoe delivers all of those requirements. This particular Gel-160 does have the leather upper, which I'm hoping will make it last longer than the mesh, and my foot doesn't feel any hotter than it did in a mesh shoe. I wear it for weight training, step class, running/walking and general cross-training and in the two weeks that I've had it, it has performed great. Fits well, hugs your foot without being constricting. I did buy longer laces so I could use the last hole (my heel is very narrow and I needed to do so to prevent the feeling that it was going to slide off my heel during lunges), and now it's like the shoe was made for my foot. You can really feel the gel cushioning when doing any kind of walking/running or bouncing move, and the shoe works really well in keeping your foot stabilized and not wobbling or rolling from side to side. The arch support is great for those of us with higher arches, and there's plenty of room in the toe box for me. I highly recommend this shoe! ASICS Women's GEL-160TR Training Shoe

My mom was having so many pain problems when walking. I did a lot of research and Asics got great reviews. So I bought her these shoes and she LOVES them. She says she will never go back to Nike again after wearing these. She doesn't get the arch pain in her foot anymore.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Love ASICS!, February 23, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I love ASICS! Finding a good cross trainer has been difficult since I have low arches and need good lateral support and cushioning for high impact/plyo workouts. Last year I purchased 2 pair of ASICS Gel Kushon cross-trainers and was completely sold on the brand. Just the right amount of cushioning, arch support, room in the toe box, lateral support! An all-around great shoe. I purchased the 160TR because the previous shoe was discontinued. I did a lot of research since I usually purchase my shoes online. But I was not let down! It has all the bells and whistles that I look for in a cross-trainer. I will be purchasing another pair because I teach 7-10 fitness classes per week and I need to rotate my shoes. Great Buy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Most comfortable ever, January 29, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I've worn ASICS for several years. The previous pairs were fitted by a professional at a running shoe store based on my foot and how I walk. I have a wider foot and higher arch than most (but not super wide/high), and I roll my foot OUT when I step. Those previous ASICS were comfortable and rid me of painful shin splints and foot pain when I ran. Therefore, I was reluctant to purchase these over internet without first trying them on and having the professional fitting. However, they were a lighting deal at an amazing price so I decided to take a chance. The professional mentioned to me that I should stick with ASICS because their medium width are a little roomier than others and a wide width would be too big for me. He also told me to avoid the shoes with the darker shadings on the sole that run from the bottom of the shoe, through the arch area, and to the top of the sole as those were for people who's feet roll in. I don't know if that info was specific to the ASICS brand or athletic shoes in general or even that I understood him correctly, but the info stuck in my head. The shadings on these stopped short of going all the way to the top of the sole, so I felt they might be OK. I am very happy I took a chance and purchased them. They are even more comfortable than the previous professionally fitted ones! The arch support feels great! The width seems a little more snug than the others, but I don't pull the laces as tight and the problem is solved. This makes for a shorter lace to tie and they can't be double bow tied. But it's a non-issue because these laces stayed tied and don't need the extra loop like others.
