3.0 out of 5 stars Ugly Shoe Design
It's hard to be critical of any shoe Asics makes, but the diagonal lacing of this and other of their later models is really off-putting. It actually makes the shoe appear defective and they are much more difficult to lace and untie. It's back to Brooks for me, until Asics changes their design ways.

If you are looking for an everyday shoe or have only a passing interest in running, you'll probably want to go buy something less expensive. Yes, the Kayano 16 is an expensive shoe. If you have adopted a running lifestyle, are running a significant number of miles per week (25+), or are training for a marathon or half-marathon, you know the value of a good shoe and the Kayano is worth the investment.
The quality of the construction is fantastic. I have logged 400 miles on these shoes and they are holding together perfectly. The ride is soft and the shoe feels light on the feet. The space in the toe box has drastically reduced the number of blackened toes and lost toe nails. The manner of running the lacing down the line of the foot makes for a much more comfortable and secure fit.
If you are a runner looking for a great investment in your feet, the Kayano 16 is a fantastic choice.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the BEST running shoes around., October 13, 2010
This shoe has absolutely the best support there is around. I shopped around a bit and nothing could beat this one. The first time I used it, I felt the medial arch support it gave (that's why it's great for people with flexible flat feet - moderate overpronators). This shoe is perfect for running on roads, in trails and moderately uneven terrain. It cushions for impact and if you want better support than this, I would suggest getting the green Superfeet shoe insert in place of the current insert for better shock absorption.

This is a shoe that I see myself using not just every day at work (I am a physical therapist and I am on my feet 8 hours a day) but also getting many miles of running on them. You are getting an excellent pair of shoes for its price.

Sizing: Feels true to size

Width: Feels true to width

Pros: Good Arch Support, Durable, Breathable, Moderate Pronation Control, Cushions Impact, Comfortable

Best Uses: Road Running

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Running Show, November 21, 2010
I have been using Kayanos since the 12s, getting one or two every year. They are getting better, and this is the best so far. I am a big guy with over 200 pounds , and I run about 15 miles per week. These shoes provide good cushioning and support, my feet, knees and ankles like them.

4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Pair of Shoe!, March 9, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Man, I should've went with these pair in the beginning and save my time some trouble. First went with the pair of Reebox ZigZag and then Reebox something. Both weren't very comfortable. It felt very tight on the side and a bit heavy.

These ASCICS are light and extremely comfortable. I have been using them the past 3 days and love them. Great on treadmill, great on elliptical, and great on brisk walk.

This review is from: ASICS Men's GEL-Kayano 16 Running Shoe (Apparel)
This shoe is the one I find fits my foot best and I order it again and again. Great for a pronator. Feels good all around, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great running shoes, April 22, 2011

I am a casual runner (10-15 miles a week) and I've been using Kayano's for about three years now. Prior to using them I suffered from pretty severe plantar fascitis that really limited my ability to train. These shoes have great stability and in my opinion, have really helped me overcome my plantar fascitis. I've run countless 5 & 10Ks in these shoes as well as a few half-marathons. I would recommend them for anyone who wants to take care of their feet, but get the workouts they want. The Gel Kayano 16 surely doesn't disappoint.

I run 50 miles/week, about 7 miles per day. These Asics Gel Kayano 16's are awesome. My feet don't feel tired at all, if I had more energy and breath I could probably go further on these. Cushioning is excellent, fit is great, very comfortable even on long runs. I usually alternate my running shoes, running w/ one pair, then a different pair the next day. I bought a 2nd pair for when I'm ready to retire these and will probably buy the Gel Kayano 17s after wearing out both my pairs of 16's.

5.0 out of 5 stars the cadillac of running shoes, April 3, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I'm somewhat biased towards asics, I have been running in them for years. I log about about 40mi a week and rotate through several different types of asics depending on my workout - ds trainers, GTs, kinetics and the kayano's. In my humble opinion, the kayano's are far-and-away the best bang for your buck. They maybe a little heavier than other shoes I've run in, but my feet and knees do not lie, and they always feel so much better when running in kayano's.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Shoe and worth every penny, February 18, 2011
I am a heavier runner (220+) and have used the 16's for over a year and am on my third pair. I bought my first pair when I was 325 pounds and starting to get in shape and they held up exceptionally well. They have seen me through several races including two marathons and I currently run 25-30 miles per week in them. After I put 300 miles on a pair, I stop running in them but use them for other gym activities and around the house and they hold up well.

I have the 12 2E size and the Asics are the best fit for my foot. I have tried several other shoes (New Balance, Brooks, etc.) and have not found anything as natural as these to run in. I'm going to try the 17's eventually, but I think I will have to stock up on these because they work so well. If you are a bigger runner, try these shoes. I have never had any tonail issues or injury issues despite numberous 20+ mile runs.
