Product Description

In 1949, Mr. Kihachiro Onitsuka began his athletic footwear company (Onitsuka Co., Ltd.) by manufacturing basketball shoes out of his living room in Kobe, Japan. He chose the name ASICS for his company in 1977, based on a famous Latin phrase "Anima Sana In Corpore Sano," which, when translated, expresses the ancient ideal of "A Sound Mind in a Sound Body." Taking the acronym of this phrase, ASICS was founded on the belief that the best way to create a healthy and happy lifestyle is to promote total health and fitness. Today, ASICS offers a full line of performance-driven athletic shoes and technical active sports apparel and accessories dedicated to bringing harmony to the body and soul.

Designed for agility, ASICS blends court-specific demands with lightweight running technology.

When I tried these shoes on in a store, I was immediately impressed with how fitted they felt on my feet. The design is very much like a running shoe, but with a rubber sole meant for the indoor courts.

I used to play competitive badminton (Open/A grade in both the USA and Australia), and now play relatively high level, recreational squash. Because of the wear and tear on my knees from 18 plus years of badminton, and the general pounding of the squash game, I prefer court shoes that have excellent cushioning in both the heel and the forefoot.

About the sizing, I believe because of the fitted cut: quite tight in the heel and around the arch area, then gradually flaring out around the forefoot region, it is important to try these shoes on prior to purchase. A little bit too long and the cut in the arch region will end up feeling too tight.

I pretty much only use Asics, but I've found that depending on the model, I've successfully worn anywhere from an 8, 8.5, to even a 9. The Volleycross, I'm wearing an 8.5.

In terms of play, the Gel-Volleycross Revolution MT were some of the best I've ever used. They simply never caused me a second thought during their first use on court, which was in a competitive match. And that's pretty unique, as usually when I wear shoes on the court for the first time, or switch models from day to day, I will notice the different 'feel' on the court's surface.

When I tried these on for the first time, I also tried on the Asics Sensei 4. This is where I first noted the very 'fitted' cut of the newer Asics models. The Sensei I tried on was a size 9 (the store didn't have 8.5 in stock). Being just a little too long and they were uncomfortable, width wise, in the arch region, pinching on the outside edge of my foot.

The Volleycross was perfect in a size 8.5. No slack side to side, or forward movement in the store, nor anything noticeable on the court. And the grip on the wood floor was superb.

I ordered my usual shoe size and it fits perfect... excellent ankle support and comfort... well constructed yet they weigh little. This mid-top especially great for outdoor grass volleyball which I do a lot of. Grass courts will often have wear spots and uneven surfaces that can easily tweak an ankle and then there is the occasional opponent's foot that lands on my side of the court... well, this shoe can help prevent injury. I highly recommend this shoe!

The big difference between the 4 and the 3 are that the 4 is more rigid; which makes it less flexible for those with wider feet. I play competitively as an indoor setter/libero and need as much traction as possible to cover court. I found that the 3 has better grip(similar design to mizuno soles), and lasted longer treadwise than the 4. I don't know why they went backwards in the tread design when they had significantly improved it with the 3.

The Midtop design is a love hate relationship. It offers more support, but hampers certain movements slightly as it locks your ankle from moving around too much A lot of competive players I've talked to said they've never gotten to used to it, neither have I. If you absolutely love playing in basketball shoes, this might work for you. Or if you wish to avoid having to strap on active ankles. As to why Asics did away with the low top design and better tread for Men when it's been used for decades, we'll never know.

If you wear Ascis the size will be the same. I have always worn Ascis. Great shoe. Gives great cushion after the jump.

Excellent shoe, fits true to form for me. Take it to the courts weekly and always put on a show with them.
My favorite volleyball shoes to date, planning on purchasing another pair in case they ever become discontinued
Great support, being a tennis player for years now I know when a good shoe comes along.
    Definitely an excellent investment!

I did a ton of research before I bought my son shoes this time. Number 1 -- they are not white. He hated his white ones and if anyone wants a pair of barely used 15 white court shoes, let me know. Number 2 -- he was coming off a bad injury and it was time to take his feet, knees and ankles serious. He loves the shoes and wears them all the time (which I don't like). Excellent investment.

As a semi-professional volleyball player (outside hitter) i have always looked for a shoe that would provide not only stability (guaranteed by the mid-top cut of this shoe) but also cushioning to eradicate the pain in the ankles and knees from continuous jumping. And there it is! Volleycross is a great hubrid of volleyball and running technology and i am very pleased with it since the first moment. Runs true to size but it's a bit narrow in width, so if you have flat feet maybe you should consider some other options. An extra plus is its looks wich are quite impressive!
