5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Perfect
Asics has been my favorite brand for the past 2 seasons. This is my favorite training shoe for this season. Excelent cushioning and support. I'm 6ft and 92kg with mild pronation so this is exactly what I need to help prevent injuries. Anyone coming from the 2130 shoes will not be disappointed. So far I think it's even better than the current Kayano.

3.0 out of 5 stars Make absolutely sure the arch support is right.
This shoe had fantastic reviews everywhere so I went to the local store and bought them. I have slightly wide feet(just not wide enough for a wide size), have medium arches and wear support shoes because of my particular pronation.

I bought a size 10 (Also the size of my Gel-Kayanos) after wearing these shoes and walking about a bit in my local store. The...

5.0 out of 5 stars Love being back with Asics, September 6, 2009
By
NewRunner (Arlington, VA) - See all my reviews
Am a new runner who started running 5Ks, 10Ks, and a single 10-miler in 2008-09. Started out with Asics, and knowing little about running shoes, kept looking for bargains. Ended up with Sauconys and Nikes for a while. Also ended up being sore around my achilles and knees for a long period of time. Finally went and got fitted at a running store and they recommended Asics Gel Nimbus - expensive, but a smooth ride. Developed some serious knee pain over time and finally went to a podiatrist for advice. Turns out the Gel Nimbus were too soft, especially in the heel for my running gait. Also turns out that one leg is 3/8 of an inch shorter than the other, this being the biggest cause of the knee pain. Podiatrist provided a list of acceptable running shoes, including the GT-2140s, which he said would be firmer in the heel. He also provided a 3/8 inch lift which he said to put under the sole of the shoe on the shorter leg.

The GT-2140s have completely transformed my running experience. They are firm but provide just the right level of support for my gait. Best of all, I run more or less pain free and there is nothing better than that after a year of gritting my teeth as soon as I hit mile 4 and pushing through. Now I am training for a marathon and I have put 150 miles on these shoes in the past seven weeks and they are holding up well. I hear that these are going to be discontinued soon, so I feel like I will be buying at least two more pairs before that happens! Highly recommend these shoes for runners who don't over-pronate, but who need stability and a firmer heel.

3.0 out of 5 stars Make absolutely sure the arch support is right., September 30, 2009

The shoe fit well all around. The arch support felt a little high and a little more towards the fore-foot than usual. I thought they just needed breaking in. I couldn't have been more wrong. Within a few runs I had terrible pain in the arches of my feet.

Try them on and ensure that the arch support is just right and in the right place. The shoe will either fit your arches perfectly when you first wear them or it it never will. If you feel the arch of the insole even a little more than your old running shoes, don't buy them. Except for this little idiosyncrasy it is a good shoe.

The Gel-Kayanos are a little more expensive than these but they are fantastic and well worth the price difference and then some. You can't match the comfort and support of the Kayanos even if you insert a $50 insole into these shoes (I have tried several).

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Shoe, September 8, 2009
I am a recreational runner and run between 3.5 and 5.5 miles 5 days a week. I am also 6'3" and 230 lbs. and as a heavier runner, really appreciate the durability and comfort of this shoe. I also own a pair of 2130s and like them very much, but find the 2140s just a bit more comfortable to run in. I would highly recommend this shoe, especially for heavier runners.

5.0 out of 5 stars ASICS Running, August 28, 2009
By
I have recently got these shoes for my NROTC training. I previously had a great pair of Asics and wore them out over the school year. These are just as good if not better than my 2120's. I feel they have a lot more support and cushion and I have never gotten blisters from my Asics. They take a little breaking in by running a few miles just as any shoe would. I would highly recommend these shoes or any pair of Asics to anyone that runs on any terrain. I use them on soft sand, gravel, playing field grass and sidewalks. they also dry out quickly for after the rainy/wet days. enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great experience from Asics, July 26, 2009
I have been using ASICS running shoes for over 10 years now and they continue to provide excellent, well priced shoes. Very good support and my feet do not feel fatigued or sore when I use them. I run about 32 kms (20 miles) per week so not much but ASICS has proven to be a reliable and well thought out shoes. I tried another brand once and had sore ankles for weeks, that was the last time I strayed. I would not hesitate to buy ASICS runnings shoes.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great shoe, for a few months, December 19, 2009
I've been wearing this shoe for a couple of months and they are some of the best shoes I have ever had. There's one big problem - the mesh top is so light that my big toe on both feet have broken through. I don't think I'm that tough on shoes, so heads up.

1.0 out of 5 stars Defective, March 25, 2010
I bought my asics 2140 from [...] The first pair I got were different sizes. Both shoes said they were size 13.5, but one shoe was a good 1/2 inch longer than the other. So I returned them, and they sent me a different pair. This pair, the right shoe feels great, but the left shoe tilts my foot to the outside, which results in a sore left knee from just walking around. Running is downright painful. My feet may not be identical, but I've been running for many years, and never had a problem with any running shoes before, so I'm fairly certain this pair is also defective. I don't believe that two defective pairs in a row is a coincidence. I don't know if Eastbay is selling 2nds, or Asics started making crappy shoes (all my previous Asics have been great...), but I highly recommend trying these on in a store before you spend any money on them.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Fitting Shoe for Runners, February 25, 2010
Fit was quite snug to the point of being too tight right out of the box, but a quick 2 mile run on the treadmill loosened them up nicely and now after several more short runs they're perfectly molded to my feet. I can't say that I've ever had a pair of sneakers of any type that fit so comfortably well.

The design and cushioning materials used in these running shoes are simply outstanding in effectiveness for virtually eliminating the shin and knee discomfort I experienced prior to wearing them and my workouts are now much more comfortable overall as a result. However, I'm now noticing some slight hip discomfort during my runs that I didn't before as the impact is apparently absorbed so incredibly well by the Asics GT-2140 shoes in the mid to lower extremities that my hip joints have now become the weakest link in absorbing the shock and its noticeable.

Style wise I can't say that these shoes are incredibly attractive, but that's coming from someone who absolutely loves the gorgeous, modern styling of the Nike Shox, but these weren't really purchased for style, but rather increased comfort for supporting workout productivity and they truly deliver that result in a pleasantly comfortable, unsurpassed fashion.
