a major step down from the 15
on January 14, 2013
I've run ten marathons in (earlier model) DS Trainers. I love the line. It's perfect for long distance running, and marathons in particular. ASICS shoes fit my feet like a glove and for 20 years I've been able to go into a store and pick up a pair of Men's 11.5 (Kayanos, DS Trainers, Racers, 2010s, Kahanas, you name it) and walk out happy. Until now.
After about 4 miles in the 16s, my feet began to hurt. Actively hurt. That had never happened before, but it happened on several runs in a row. I figured it was an overtraining injury, or that I'd just turned 40 or something. On a whim, I switched back to my smelly old pair of DS Trainer 15s. No pain, right on into a 20-miler. Back the 16s... pain at mile 4! Back to the 15s... no pain. I ran my next marathon in the old 15s and felt fine. Now I'm trying the 16s again (actually, the 17s, because I sent the 16s back to ASICS), and my feet hurt. Still no problem in the 15s. What did you do, ASICS???
