5.0 out of 5 stars ASICS GT-2160
Great running shoe very good feel even on first runs with them. I was using muzuno alchemy 7 but I find the gt has better stability for me. The GT also has great cushioning at the heal and box area. I run 2.5 to 5 miles a day.

3.0 out of 5 stars Solid, reliable, stylish, but pricey and needs update
This is my 2nd pair of 2160s after having had the 2150 and 2140 before that. As a runner, I'm following the rule of don't change what works. I'm actually not convinced it's this shoe model that enabled me to maintain a running program finally free of shin splint pain. It might be, or it might be the Superfeet insoles I use in them.

The GT-2160 has a very...

5.0 out of 5 stars 2160 beats NB 993 for me and my wide feet!, February 12, 2011
By
This review is from: ASICS Men's GT-2160 Running Shoe (Apparel)
Just started running and initially got the NB 993's as they were rated well here. I live in a rural area so couldn't try on running shoes.

Big mistake.

I went to a runner store in VA and went through the fitting process.

I tried on NB, Brooks, Asics, and several models of each.

The 2160's felt more molded/supportive to my feet than anything else including the Kayano 17's.

I have worn the 2160's now several times and each time I run in them I thank myself for getting them!

I don't mind spending $150 or so on a running shoe, but this $100 shoe was superior to me.

Everyone's feet are different so head to a store if you can.

Give these a try if you want 'stability' running shoes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Same old reliable GT-21XX Shoe, July 21, 2011
By

I have worn the ASICS GT-21XX shoes for years now and the 2160 is the same old reliable shoe in this product line. I did have some problems with last years model (2150?) with both foot and knee soreness but not with the 2160, which is the whole reason I have stuck with this line for at least the last 7 years or so.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent running shoes, October 6, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
It only took about 11 days for the shoes to arrive in Afghanistan. They have performed as expected. Excellent quality and comfort. I could have probably gone with a wider version but these are fine for the 5-6 miles a day I run. There is no heel slippage that I tend to get with other brands. I'll buy another pair when these wear out.

The GT-2160 has a very well-designed sole that wears well and strikes the road with the right feel of stability, comfort, and weight. I like how it looks, and although I mainly use it as a dedicated running shoe, I do walk around in them and never suffer any foot fatigue specifically from this shoe, like I would from others.

My biggest complaint may have more to do with a defect in my own feet and toes, more so than this shoe. I tend to raise my big toe upwards while running and walking. The Asics GT-2160 have a very thin mesh upper. Every pair of this line I've owned, winds up with holes near where this toe raise occurs after around 5 or 6 months of wear. This could be prevented if they would have designed a slightly larger outer protective area near the big toe. There is an added outer layer meant for this, but it falls about a half inch short, in the spot I need more material to avoid this issue.

Otherwise, the rest of the shoe holds up very well. I just completed 450 miles of training on the prior pair, which I now use playing around the yard with my kids and short walks. I ran a 3:40 full marathon in this new pair I just bought, a personal best, my 3rd marathon at age 40. So I can't complain much, and I'll stick with this model, but wish it was about $20 cheaper, as I think this level of running shoe technology should be. $95 every 6 months for mostly mesh and hard rubber.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great comfort--doesn't give sharp heels blisters, May 29, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
So this review will target those people with sharp heels like me. I get blisters with most shoes if I don't wear two pairs of socks--NOT THESE! They are so padded and comfy that I can wear regular cotton socks, not even the special workout Nike or adidas ones, and I won't get hot spots! If you don't like very comfortable and padded running shoes, go somewhere else. I sweat a TON and these do well with that too. I put little gel insoles in these to make them extra comfy but NOT necessary by any means. Also they look much better than the other brands at the exact price. ASICS was born a running company (Nike did not) so I trusted them. I had a first pair, those got stolen and I immediately bought another pair of them. I've had blue and red--both look great! I also have fairly wide feet (not hobbit-wide) and these are perfect. They also have the grey band on the instep which means I'm a pronator.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best shoes..., January 5, 2012
This review is from: ASICS Men's GT-2160 Running Shoe (Apparel)
... I have ever worn. I have been wearing these shoes for about the past 4 months running anywhere from 3 to 6 miles a day. I run in these shoes for 2 to 3 days and alternate with a pair of Nike(Air Pegasus+ 27 Trail). Terrain has been both street and trails as I have access to a 3 mile trail not too far from my work and I really like trail running.

After long runs with my Nikes, I found that my feet are achy but after the same distance with my Asics my feet don't ache at all. The cushion is just phenomenal on these - much better than the Nikes. The cushion on the Asics seems to be much more responsive than the Nike and as a heavier runner, that means a lot.

A little about myself. I am around 190 lbs and have been running since about 1977 - so for a while basically. I am neither pronator nor supinator; when my foot strikes it is just behind the ball of my foot and my foot is parallel to the ground and not angled one way or the other.

Summary: These shoes are the best running shoes I have EVER worn and that spans about 30+ years. I have since purchased 2 more pair because I am afraid that they will discontinue them and I wanted to stock up.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Shoe, with Minor Durability Issues, December 11, 2011
This review is from: ASICS Men's GT-2160 Running Shoe (Apparel)
I run 6-10 miles per day 6 days a week. This is the shoe that works best for me. It has the right fit and just feels good. I have tried some other shoes over the years, but I always come back to Asics, specifically this shoe. It has the DUOMAX arch support which I need, and a little of the gel cushioning which is nice. Unfortunately, I have had some issues with the durability of the shoe. I heel strike when I run, and this wears away the rubber sole on the outside heel of the shoe. After 2-3 months of running (6-10 miles per day, 6 days per week), the rubber sole is completely gone there and I have to buy a new pair. I have heard that running shoes should be replaced every 2 months anyway, but I still wish they were a bit more durable. I once had a pair of Sauconys that lasted over 6 months, but they didn't have the right feel and I returned to these. In short, these shoes are great, but you may have to replace them a little more frequently than another brand.

4.0 out of 5 stars Asics the shoe for me, June 27, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Due to bio-mechanical foot and leg problems the mens Asics 2000 series has proved the the only shoe I can wear, exercising or not. The first one I bought was a 2020!! The 2160 is continuing to work for me. The only disappointment are the shoe laces, which are showing a tendency to work their way undone in spite of double knots, so long distance people be aware. Still that is a problem easily over come.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best shoe for the money!, February 23, 2011
This review is from: ASICS Men's GT-2160 Running Shoe (Apparel)
Tried on all different kinds of shoes, including the Kayano 17 but preferred this shoe over them all. It had a gel feeling that the others simply didn't have, like walking on a firm pillow. I had shin pain and no longer get it with these. As the previous poster stated, the diminishing returns on the Kayano 17 make this the best choice for people who don't have severe foot issues, the only difference between the two is the 2160 acts as a BMW M5 series while the Kayano 17 is like a M7. I strongly urge you to make your first purchase at a local FAMILY owned store that knows what they are doing and can do numerous tests on your feet.
