The Turbo Phantom 2 is an elite racing spike for events from 200 to 800 meters, including hurdles. The upper is specifically designed to assist and support the athlete's foot on the turn.

In 1949, Mr. Kihachiro Onitsuka began his athletic footwear company (Onitsuka Co., Ltd.) by manufacturing basketball shoes out of his living room in Kobe, Japan. He chose the name ASICS for his company in 1977, based on a famous Latin phrase "Anima Sana In Corpore Sano," which, when translated, expresses the ancient ideal of "A Sound Mind in a Sound Body." I run high school track and I am a sprinter. I got these spikes for the 200m race and they are great. They feel comfortable and snug plus they give a great grip to the track, especially on the turn. I know of two hurdlers on my team that wear these same shoes for the 400m hurdles and the 110m hurdles. I highly recommend these spikes.

Okay. Maybe my star rating isn't fair. Because this is clearly a user (me) error. My husband's a runner. I wanted to buy running shoes. I saw some for $20 and got all excited because running shoes cost between $60 and $80 for a decent pair. Do you see where this is going? I knew about the spikes, but since it said they were removeable, I didn't worry.

The other real problem is the color. These shoes have some serious BLING. They're gold. And they kind of look like they were tiled in gold. Even if they worked on pavement, my husband would. never. wear. these. shoes. He wouldn't wear a pink polo shirt, either... it's in that category.

Long story short, unless you are using shoes on a track or going drag, don't buy these.. lol They definitely won't work on the hilly pavement of our neighborhood. *sigh* Silver lining? We have a great new white elephant gift.....
