I've owned a version of this shoe for five years. Every year, the model number increases by 10. For example, my first shoe in this series was the Asics GEL-1110. The 1160 is very similar to my original model, and all of the things that I love about the 1110, 1130, and 1140, I love in the 1160.
First, and most important to me, is this shoe is incredibly lightweight and flexible, while still having adequate support for short and medium length runs (I don't generally run more than 6 miles). I never feel as if my shoe is weighing me down. It is primarily covered with mesh, which is nice if your feet sweat a lot or you happen to run through puddles.
It also has great traction for paved surfaces, and holds up surprisingly well in rougher terrain too. I've actually chosen this shoe over my hiking boots for a few backpacking trips that involved extended walking through streams and rivers or day hikes up peaks that increase altitude quickly such as Mount Shasta, CA and Harney Peak in the Black Hills. The mesh allows the shoe to drain water quickly, and the lightness of the materials are nice when every step of a hike is uphill.
While this shoe isn't great for people that demand lots of gel support or correction from severe pronation, it's a great choice for runners like me that have average arches and neutral to slight pronation. I find the shoe comfortable and a great price for a well-designed running shoe.

This is the perfect running shoe for anyone who runs short or long distances. I have worn my first pair out in training for and running in a 10 miler, triathlon, and half marathon. They are durable and hold up very well. I have washed them a few times and they never change. Perfect arch support, very comfortable, and light weight.
You will notice a painful difference in your hips, feet, and knees if you buy cheap running shoes so it is worth it to pay the extra to save your joints. And these shoes are a great price for how perfect they are. I recommend them to everyone, even those who just do casual work-outs or walks.

I've used some version of the Asics 1100 line for the past several years. This shoe hasn't made too many changes from their previous design, although I think the forefoot might be a bit more rockered. I have problems with patello femoral pain and plantar fascitis thanks to my fallen arches, which have been getting worse over the years. I tried a heavier, "stability" asics last year but the arch ended up being too low and the whole shoe weighed a ton. These shoes offer a good amount of stability without being made of lead. I particularly like the very firm heel cup assembly, which helps hold your heel in a neutral position. That acts as a "lock" to help keep your arch in place. The forefoot is nice and wide, which is good if you have relatively flat feet like me. Most of the padding is concentrated in the heel, which I've found with pretty much all asics. That means if you strike with your midfoot (which I do), the shoe will wear out faster.
The things I don't like - I do think the forefoot might have too much of a "rockered" bottom, which can change your running stride a bit. I also don't like that they haven't reinforced the mesh on the arch side of your foot. They offer nice increased density foam, but your foot can always "balloon" out the side of the shoe if you are a heavy overpronator.
Overall, for the price and the fact that I knew they would be a good fit, I'm very happy with these shoes. I'm 5'10" about 150lbs, and run less than 30 miles a week on a mix of pavement and trails.

I have worn this brand/type for years now and prefer them to any brand I have tried. I use a treadmill 4-5 days a week and was wearing out the cheap shoes fast, as well as wearing out my feet and knees. I am in my 60s and need the support of a good shoe for stability. I wish I had found them years earlier.

I don't wear tennis shoes very often; just for working out and occasional walking. It was time to update my tennis shoes, but I was have a terrible time finding a shoe that didn't feel like it was squeezing the life out of my feet. I don't consider myself to have wide feet, but nonetheless every tennis show I tried on was too narrow, even at a half-size larger. I ended up trying this shoe on at a local store and was quite happy. I was still looking at a half-size larger than I typically wear, but it felt very comfortable on my feet. The mesh makes my feet feel like they can breath, and there is plenty of arch support and cushion. I also like that these shoes aren't overly large, and thus don't feel like I am wearing Frankenstein boots. They are lightweight and are an attractive pair of tennis shoes.
My only complaint for this shoe would be the price. I typically spend $30-$50 on a tennis shoe and these were $85 at my local retailer. I was able to get them slightly cheaper here on Amazon, which was some relief. I am told this is a pretty decent price for a tennis shoe, but as a non-avid tennis shoe wearer, I just felt it was a little steep. I am sure I will get a lot of use out of them due to their comfort, and maybe the price will be an incentive to use them more. :)

I walk oddly, apparently.
I put a lot of pressure on the ball of my foot and my shoes get worn down more in that area after about 2 years. I also roll my ankles quite a bit. I did some research and found that 'stability' shoes would be best, or shoes designed for tennis players.
These shoes were very comfortable from the start. I enjoy wearing them. The mesh keeps a lot of air flowing through, so my foot doesn't sweat as much as with most shoes.
I tried on a pair first in a store, to make sure the fit was accurate, since I have never worn Asics. I got my 'usual' size, so I would say that the fit is true to size.
So far, so good, after about 3 weeks.
Edit* 3 months later
One shoe has developed a small hole where the tip of my big toe is. I mostly wear them for taking walks and wearing out and about, but nothing major. It is unfortunate, because otherwise they are still very comfortable. The mesh is just really thin in that area.
And, I can't return them because it is past the 1 month window.
I have spoken with Amazon's customer service, and they were very helpful in returning the shoe, because I couldn't get in touch with the manufacturer (neither could they).

First off, I do not consider myself to be a "runner". I just started running this year and am still pretty ignorant with regards to gear and products, etc. I purchased these shoes as a trainer pair - one that I could wear for everyday training on the treadmill and road. They arrived quickly, though only 2 days before my first half marathon, so I was hesitant to wear them for such a long run before properly breaking them in. I wore them anyway - see, I'm like that. Let me just say that after 13.1 miles, my feet were the ONLY parts of my body that didn't hurt. I did not have a single blister, there was no pinching - nothing. These shoes are light, airy, and ultra-comfortable. My feet love me when I wear these shoes. Since I have three more half marathons scheduled for this year, I will now order another pair or two so I don't wear these out too quickly. I love them.

My wife bought these shoes after I bought my Gel-1160s and I enjoyed mine so much I recommended the ladies version for her. She normally wears New Balance, but is an ASICS convert after wearing the Gel-1160. She walks 2 miles every day and enjoys these immensely. They offer great support and cushioning. She often has knee pain but has little to no knee pain with these shoes. Recommended.

Comfortable fit but just moderate support. Also, easily wears through at medial forefoot. Would be great for a low mileage runner.
