An evolution in cuffs, myths be gone!,

These cuffs are 100% adequate for law enforcement duty gear. The key features that differentiate them from the competition are:
-Polymer frame (which makes them lighter) -Keyholes on both sides (for easier access) -Bright double lock indicator (which makes it super easy to tell if you haven't double locked them yet). In my opinion, these features make for a superior set of cuffs. One word of warning, though- ASPs are thicker than most other cuffs, so be prepared to buy ASP-specific cases. I happen rather to like ASP cases because they have a hidden slot for an extra cuff key, and I can always use a spare. Having said that, there are some myths and common sense issues out there that I'd like to dispel: #1 ASP cuffs are easy to pick This is the most common thing I hear from other officers. There are really a few points to address here: a) This belief started because the original* ASPs could be picked with a pocket knife. However, ASP quickly caught on, remedied the problem and issued a recall. The "new" version* is no easier to pick than any other reputable brand, but this begs the question... b) Why did your suspect have a pocket knife in the first place? Improve your search technique. All the cuff technology in the world might not help you if you don't find the hidden weapons on the bad guy. And when it comes to weapons always remember that where there's one, there's always more. BE THOROUGH! Of course, we're not perfect and the bad guys are constantly thinking of ways to get one up on us, which leads me to... c) No cuff is "escape-proof". If people can escape from prison, they can sure as hell escape from cuffs. Pick your favourite brand and you'll find plenty of YouTube videos demonstrating all the wonderful ways to get out of them. Just as you would always treat a firearm as though it's loaded, always treat cuffs as though they can be defeated. BE VIGILANT! #2 They're made of plastic/flimsy/break easily Do you carry a Glock? Did you know it's "plastic" too? ASPs have a tough, high-tech polymer shell around a steel core. The polymer makes the cuffs lightweight, but not weak. In my experience, my ASPs don't give any more than my S&Ws. #3 They're too stiff/don't swing freely I've never owned a pair of cuffs that didn't take a little breaking in. The ASPs are no exception. The first thing you should do after taking them out of the box is test them. If they're a little snug you can stick the fork of one cuff into the slot of the other and twist a little. This will take all of 30 seconds. If they're really being stubborn you could even file down the plastic on the inside, although I've never needed to do that. And, last but not least, don't forget to regularly clean & oil the moving parts! Here's the bottom line: When I pick any tool to carry on the street I'm always thinking that if it's crap, it could potentially cost me my life. My gun, my flashlight, my boots, my belt- if I don't trust it completely, it doesn't come with me. I carry my ASPs on every shift and off duty, so you do the math. *Note: The old cuffs had a red double lock indicator, the new ones are yellow.

I keep a set of these cuffs with my gear and in my truck with me. Not too strange for a cop, right? I'm a USMC MP and have used these cuffs both on duty in the States, and here in Afghanistan. The LN (Local Nationals - Afghans) know flex cuffs and will sometimes smuggle their ever-present cooking knife up their sleeve if there is a threat of being detained. This was the case when I detained a local Talib. He did not resist, but was surprised when I slapped legit cuffs on him. These cuffs are great for when the adrenaline starts flowing and you need to double lock, or even unlock in a hurry. The double sided locks allow for easy application, not having to worry about how the cuffs are loaded. Once broken in, these cuffs are a dream and even perform well when dirty. When cleaning my service weapons, I usually brush these off too and add a couple drops of CLP for good measure. A great purchase. I'm thinking about getting another set...just for the in case.

These cuffs are great, they go on easy just need a little breaking in, the rubber/plastic part will rub against the single bar, but once its broken in it will go on easy as pie. Makes fighting to get them on real easy and will go on the first attempt basically everytime. The cuffs are lighter than other cuffs and they have lock and key on both sides.

I have used many different types of cuffs for a very long time and say that there are two big differences that I have to say I dont like. First of all the black section of the cuff flexes a lot. There is so much play in fact that you can bend it to wear the stainless toothed part of the cuff goes outside of the housing near the keyholes. There are reviews on youtube that demonstrate what I am talking about. Second, these cuffs are huge! Other normal cuffs are almost about half an inch shorter than these, in which I have had to look for a new larger handcuff case. Those two reasons alone is why I deducted points off the rating. Other than that the cuffs are extremely smooth when passing through the housing and operate much like much broken in pair. They are lightweight and the key holes are on both sides.Id recommend them only after you handle them at a police store first. I have talked to other users of these cuffs and have heard no real problems..other than the flexing.

What more can I say? These handcuffs are fantastic. Love the single turn unlocking, the keyhole on both sides, the way they double lock. When I took them out of the package I thought they looked and felt cheap, not anymore.
