This book has been adopted by us (and other colleges) because it is an excellent introduction to ASP at the beginner level, for 1-credit courses. The book is well built up, pedagogically correct and at a price that suits the students pocket. It covers ASP with both JavaScript and VBScript, inc files, IIS, PWS4, ODBC, SQL, Access, the object model and contains a useful capter on debugging. Recommended for all teachers (and students). Why is this book not in amazon.co.uk?

By using this simple book you too can get a toe into the ASP waters. Keep in mind the fact that this is a beginner's book. However, sometimes assumptions are made that might not be accurate for a beginner.

Nevertheless, an excellent book. It is small enough to be fully read (and exercised) in a weekend. At the price, it's a real bargain. And while I'm not the "book learnin" type, I found the sparse yet understable text to give me the information I needed. It's no bible of info, but just an introductory course...

This book teaches the basics in a way I have seen no other programming book do it. I actually "learned" something instead of just reading examples and then wondering why it all worked. This book is short and easy to read, and the problems it gives you forces you to learn ASP. A great book, one of my favorites out of 6 ASP books.

I am a beginning ASP developer and truly needed experience connecting to databases without needing to setup a DSN for each and every application that I make. This book shows extremely simple and understandable examples that make learning connections a sinch! Much appreciation to Robert on this book, it's a great help!

As a HTML web-designer I was always a bit afraid of database programming techniques, until I got this book. The really good structure introduces subjects as you go, it is actually possible to read this book. The examples are clear and simple, and each one is explained nicely, so you really can see how it works.

It really introduced me to the subject so that I got interested. Now I can judge the subject, see what others have been doing and judge which of the deep technical books are good.

In a nutshell, it was an easy way to demystify the whole subject. I have been very happy with the book and can recommend it to everyone interested in ASP.

I've read other ASP books, but this book showed me alternate ways of using ASP, making me understand the subject more, in a way that you can not find in other books. The author explained and showed a complicated topic in simple terms. He summarized the subject into topics that really mattered and in an organized way, much like how a computer instructor would summarize his notes as preparation before delivering the subject in a classroom. I'd recommend the book to instructors, students and to anyone who would like to grasp the subject of ASP.

I just started to learn ASP. I have programming experience so it was relatively easy for me. This book has great, easy, PRACTICLE examples for what you would use in a real-life application! It delivers that reasonably well. In addition, explanation of ASP basics done very well. On the other hand, I wish the code examples could have been formatted better for easier reading; for example, perhaps the keywords could have been in a different color, and use of indentation inside loops, and If..Then..Else statements, would make for easier reading. Overall, great book, great price!

This book makes the teachers life easy. After a couple of days preparation you will be able to deliver an excellent course. The innovative instructor will be able to strech the material to a 12-week semester, but the beauty is that the book is so [inexpensive] you can use it for any length of course, right down to 2-day courses!

Why waste your time developing your own stuff when this is 100% foolproof and ready-to-go? This book is simply a Godsend for the overworked instuctor!

Prof Dr Mellor is not only a master programmer, but also really knows how to make readable books. As a not-really-native English speaker, I had no difficulty with understanding the material. But the material is structured so well that (perhaps to my surprize), I ended up learning ASP. Well done !

This is exactly what i was looking for. i am teaching novices at a community college and this method worked perfectly for them. Together with an introduction to SQL that i put together, this stretched perfectly to 15 weeks.

The only qualm i would have is that there are typos in the book which make the code not work which is less than ideal but as i was able to catch these before the students did, it worked out.
