About the Author

Kevin Marshall is a software developer at heart. He is a consultant to a number of companies and currently runs 50+ sites of his own—many of which are now happily taking advantage of ActiveRecord with the Ruby on Rails framework, including the popular DraftWizard.com. As a technology writer, Kevin has published a short article, "Web Services with Rails," contributed a few recipes to the Ruby Cookbook, and contributed a number of articles to the Association of Computing Machinery's periodical, Computing Reviews (available online at Reviews.com).

Kevin is also a member of the Pro Football Writers Association, the Fantasy Sports Trade Association, and the Fantasy Sports Writers Association. When he's not deep into coding, building content, or talking football, he's generally off playing with his sons. To learn more about what he's up to right now, you can visit his company site, Falicon.com, or just drop him a note at info@falicon.com.

After graduating with various engineering degrees, Costas Hadjisotiriou switched to working with web design, databases, and gadgets. For Costas, ASP.NET is a big fascination, almost as much as PDA programming. Costas keeps busy with various web programming contracts, while trying to be a good family man as well. For the last 4 years he has been successfully working from home in Spain, and advises everyone to do the same.

Rachel Andrew is a director of edgeofmyseat.com, a U.K.-based web solutions company, and is an experienced web developer. Rachel is a member of the Web Standards Project on the Dreamweaver Task Force, and hopes to encourage best practices in the support and use of W3C Standards in Dreamweaver. In addition to co-authoring several books, Rachel writes for various magazines and resource sites, both online and off. When not writing code or writing about writing code, Rachel spends time with her daughter, tries to encourage people to use Debian GNU/Linux, studies with the Open University, and enjoys a nice pint of beer.

1.0 out of 5 stars Like drinking out of a fire hose!, July 8, 2005

I'm looking for a book to use as a text for individuals who have worked extensively with Dreamweaver but have minimal, if any, programming experience. It would seem this book was meant to address this audience with its overview of OOP. So, I was rather shocked when the author covered Inheritance, Namespaces, Directives, the Forms Code Model, Event Handlers, Postback, Viewstate and Inline Render Blocks in eight pages then with no further discussion, went on to show, as a first example, a Dropdownlist and a Calendar control. The reader is asked to follow along by typing in such code as "Calendar1.WeekendDayStyle.BackColor = System.Drawing.Color.FromName(sender.SelectedItem.Value)" with absolutely no explanation, no discussion of the properties and methods of either of these controls. Nothing.

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste time...Waste money...Worst book I ever read, September 3, 2005
This review is from: ASP.NET Web Development with Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004 (Paperback)
Imagine when you do your school report on the last night before the deadline. This book touch many interesting topics but only for fooling the buyers. Like I said, like a student write a paper for the professor. Like just cut and paste from other sources. Give me big headache.

2.0 out of 5 stars You'll want to inspect this one in a book store, October 1, 2004
This review is from: ASP.NET Web Development with Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004 (Paperback)
I saw this book at Borders and I was not too impressed. But hey, that was me and you might be different. This is not a comment about the book as much as I don't feel that ASP.NET is best done in DreamWeaver and DreamWeaver doesn't have the best support for ASP.NET so I usually stick to VS unless the pages don't require server side code.
