UEFI BIOS is nice and simple to use.

I did several weeks of research to make sure I got all the right parts and got good parts that would make a decently powerful PC without breaking the bank.

These builds have been everything from totally tricked out gaming rigs to HTPCs to budget builds.

There could be very little to say bad about this motherboard. I use it to power my file server (i.e., NAS). One of the main features I was looking for were 1) cheap 2) at least 6 SATA connectors. Since it never runs memory intensive applications I don't care about RAM (only using one stick) and I don't care about pci express slots. Gigabit I care about. Fast USB I also care about because the OS is on a USB flash drive.

There were no nasty surprises with this. I have an intel G530 processor in it, which is also dirt cheap and very low power consumption. When I sleep all the hard drives the whole system just uses 35 watts, and that's with a very inefficient power supply.

Anyway, good motherboard. It's quite surprising to find 4 SATA2 and 2 SATA3 slots here becuause the H61 chipset only provides 4 SATA2 and 0 SATA3. The 2 extract SATA3 ports here are add ASRock add ons. Apparently this means they won't perform as perfectly as they would if the chipset actually provided these ports. But anyway, motherboards sporting this many ports natively cost a lot more.

The bios was simple enough. No issues there. I had no problems installing and booting from a USB 3.0 flash drive, so that's one more thing that works well. Gigabit ethernet performs as expected.

What's not to like? If this were for my main system I'd get picky and get one with four slots. But I'd be paying a lot more money too.

I actually grabbed a couple of these boards by mistake thinking they were Asus... No more late night internet shopping for me! Lol!

In truth, these are good boards so far. I had a difficult time getting the SSDs I bought with them to function... this was mainly due to lack of overall experience in building computers with all new parts. I ended up putting the SSDs in another pc and installing windows, taking them back out, installing onto these boards, running windows install disk to repair the installation, and everything worked fine... Later research taught me that I needed to update (flash) the bios and everything would have worked perfectly! Lol! Lesson learned...

I don't blame ASRock, I blame Asus and Intel!! I have never had installation issues with Asus or intel boards and I guess you could say I got spoiled to their simplicity!!

This is week 6 of this mobo running in a business environment and no issues.

This motherboard was used in my first ever custom built desktop computer. I did several weeks of research to make sure I got all the right parts and got good parts that would make a decently powerful PC without breaking the bank. After deciding to go with an Intel processor and reviewing several dozen motherboards, this was my choice. It had everything that I wanted and then some at a great price. This went into a build with an intel i3 processor, 16 gig ram, 2TB hard drive, blu ray burner and case for just under $500. I love that it has HDMI out for monitor that works with the intel hd graphics built into the processor and doesnt require an additional graphics card for good graphics. This is a great motherboard for a mid to upper level custom PC for the price concious consumer.

This is a great budget board that has enough features for the price. The only thing keeping this board for 5 stars is because of the BIOS firmware it ships with. Ivy-Bridge will only work on 1.7 and later and it ships with 1.6. Running 2.2 now and will consider upgrading later. Not bad but just remember to stay up to date.

Pros:
Reasonably priced for a i-Series motherboard.
ASRock is the baby brand of ASUS, which generally makes quality products.
Solid capacitors, and a "colorful" BIOS.
Decent configuration options, though I am unsure about overclocking capabilities since I don't do it.

Cons:
First board I purchased worked for a few minutes, then failed. Turns out it was a defective CPU pin array.

Other Thoughts:
I know that this is about product review, but I am going to give a shameless plug for Amazon's service here. The first board I purchased from a certain "Egg" of the "New" variety site, and not Amazon. After describing my problem, the CSR simply told me I was out of luck since the board's CPU socket was physically damaged (even though I did not do it), it could not be RMA'd, but I could send it in for evaluation. After paying for shipping back (insult to injury there), they declined the refund/replacement. Seems to be a documented issue with this board, which lends me to think there is some type of QC issues.

Amazon Prime to the rescue! I had a new, working board in 48 hours at a comparable price. Plus, I have the security of knowing that Amazon's customer support is absolutely top notch.

This board was bought due to a article on Toms hardware about a budget PC for gaming. This one was one step up from there recommendation but about the same price .It does a great job & clocked in at PC Pit stop in the top 28 percent of PC's registered.I had a little trouble with the LAN at first but it corrected itself.I would use ASrock again & I have always used Asus before.Great board for the money.
