I expected a horn with a vintage auto sound, however, I got a submarine dive horn. There is a significant difference. There is no way to compare the two. It is just an ear piercing OOG without the AH or GA. Don't buy it if you are looking for the "old school" sound

These are inexpensively built with a motor that does not turn at the correct speed to produce the proper sound. The motor is a small, high torque one that is instantly *on* when power is applied. And, because of it small size, with little to no inertia, it stops instantly when power is removed. The instant start prevents the ramp-up in speed to produce the 'ahhh'. It instantly goes "oooo," then stops instantly without the second or so of spin-down, which would produce the "gaaa" part of the sound.

This is a permanent magnet type of motor so the field magnets strongly attract the armature. With a motor of this small diameter that strong magnetic attraction also damps the spin of the motor when the power is removed. Lack of inertia of the small diameter armetur and the strong magnetic permanent field combine to instantly stop the spin when power is removed.

The sound, the attractiveness, of an Ahooga horn is the three distinct phases of the sound. This horn, because the motor turns at a higher RPM than it should, as I mentioned at the start, also DOES NOT PRODUCE the recognizable "oooo" sound. It is closer to a siren scream, but it is loud! Just a bit more, I have experimented with an inductor and also trying to run it at different voltages, to adjust the rpm and ramp-up and ramp-down phase. It really can't be done.

If you are unfamiliar with the true sound of an Ahooga-horn, this one may be acceptable to you. But, these horns are available, periodically on Amazon and elsewhere, for less than one third this price (of the 28 to 30 dollars). . .same brand AND same packaging, in chrome, black and red plastic.

The horn is put together quite nicely. The motor that make the sound is a bit too powerful and it does not sound like the old time horns. It is too high pitched and does not have the speed build up that I remember. Close, but not quite right. Most people would be fine with it though.

The horn produces a good sound.
The horn does NOT appear to be water-tight, so, allowing any water hit most parts of the horn could cause the horn to fail.
Locating the horn under the hood where water/snow will NOT enter horn is advisable.
Instructions for installing the horn are minimal. (Poor instructions)
What I did was disconnect the wire going to existing horn and connect it to the Aooga horn.
Another way would be to use an in-line fuse, horn relay and horn switch. (A lot more work.)
To minimize damage to the horn by water, I sealed the area where the 5 screws are and added a protective water-tight cover where the 2 wires enter the horn.

tis a great air horn, very loud and a great sound. give it 3 quick blasts and your back in a ww2 submarine with dive orders. mounted on my 1965 sea ray its a sight to behold. only con not waterproof, but if mounted dead center just in front of windsheild its pretty safe. the back of horn where wires come out i filled with clear silicone so i think it will be ok.
