4.0 out of 5 stars Feels different/Plays the same
I could tell this unit was not Sega's by the slight difference in feel. It registers well with the Dreamcast console and I even felt better about it when I pulled it out by accident during play and the Dreamcast immediatly went to a red screen and informed me that the controller was out of socket. This controler does the same job and is great for when company comes over...

1.0 out of 5 stars Garbage Controllers
These oversized plastic controllers are a waste of money. When I first got my dreamcast, which is less than a month ago, they had no sega dreamcast controllers in stock, so I figured, just buy these, they almost look the same.... WRONG! Out of the 3 extra controllers, only one remains after the others have officially defuncted. Absolute Garbage.

Like many others, I bought this because they were out of Sega's official controllers. It is, indeed, a hunk of junk. It's big, so you might like it if you're Rosco, the huge-handed man, and the analog triggers are hard to press, especially in conjucntion with the analog thumb pad. The thumb pad itself is faulty in that it tends to lean to the left like it's calibrated wrong. It's kind of hard to get your VMU in the port, I feel like I am going to break something when I put it in. Also, the thumb pad is becomming loose... I can move it about a half a cm in any direction and get no response. Avoid this controller if at all possible, but it beats having no controller at all. I finally got two new Sega controllers and they are by far the better choice.

1.0 out of 5 stars THIS PAD SUX!, January 7, 2000

To anyone even considering to get this pad.....DONT! this is the worse pad i have ever picked up in my life. It is also one of the most cheapest pads i have ever seen. Its a durable pad but its the way the pad was put together is really bad. The one i bought(only cuz it was the only one they had left)the anolog stick was shifted towards the left of the pad and on the directionlal pad the down button only worked if u pressed it really hard. THe over all design of the pad is is also really horrible. When you push down the triggers they go down about a centimeter below the actual shell of the pad so your fingers will tend to hit the shell when you press them down. They tried to lure people into buying this pad since it comes in 4 fruity colors. I also thoght it is to expensive for a pad of this terrible quality. just remeber if you ever somewhere and you see this pad DONT GET IT.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not a Good controller, July 31, 2000

This is a bad DC controller primarily because the controls are hard to use and it breaks down easily especially when using it for fighting games like SF Alpha 3. The astro pad I now regret buying broke on me in which I cannot use the control stick any longer. I would recommend spending $10 dollars more on an authentic DC controller, it's a lot better to use and it is built to last. I will NEVER get another controller from Interact again, it might be cheaper to get it now, but it will cost you more in the long run.

3.0 out of 5 stars A decent alternative..., February 1, 2000

If you absolutely cannot afford the extra few bucks it takes to get a Sega controller, this is a decent alternative. The Sega controller is more comfortable, and has more readily accessible triggers.

I picked this one up because I'm a cheap guy, but it left me wishing I had gone with the Sega controller. The thing works, it just feels a lot different (read: akward).

This controler does the same job and is great for when company comes over. If they don't own a Dreamcast they won't know any differents anyway. I bought the red and green and the added color is a plus to game play. Of course it's going to feel a little different if you've been playing with Sega's controllor. They can't make an exact copy. They'ed be sued.

2.0 out of 5 stars Cheaply Constructed, February 25, 2000

The "Performance" line of Interact products have always been made to sell for a low price tag, and in this situation it shows. The AstroPad has no special features, and is intended as a cheap replacement for the standard Sega pad. It has a hollowed-out body, which makes is extremely light even when a VMU and a Jump Pack are connected. The analog stick is constructed of even cheaper plastic than the FighterPad, which isn't saying much. And another thing, the start button is so small, trying to press it will strain your thumbs.

4.0 out of 5 stars A MUST for Dreamcast gamers with Big Hands, February 15, 2001

Being a bit taller than average, and possesing fairly large hands, I find the standard dreamcast controller to be almost completely unusable. Any time I would use my standard DC controller I would experience pain and cramping in both hands from the awkward position I would have to hold the controller in. The standard controller is simply too small, with nowhere for me to grip it comfortably.

Enter the Astro Pad to save the day. I bought this item in the hopes that it would solve my problem, as it seemed to be a bit larger than the standard pad, and it has delivered the goods. It fits my hands perfectly, and is in fact the most comfortable controller I own (also own a PS1 and a N64). Most controllers seem to be designed with small hands in mind, but this one is not. I could not enjoy my dreamcast without this pad!

On the downside it does feel cheap, but I have had no problems with response or performance so far. I use it for all of my games and it seems to work fine with every one. It also works just fine with my VMU.

In summary, if you have large hands, and the standard dreamcast controller gives you fits, buy the astro pad NOW! The ... or so price cannot be beat. Your hands will thank you for it, I promise.

5.0 out of 5 stars The cure to strained hands!, November 22, 2000

I normally don't review products, but I felt in this case I would take a few minutes and share my opinions about the AstroPad (manufactured by Interact,) for use with the Sega Dreamcast gameing console. I bought this product with the hopes that i could play racing games on the dreamcast without inflicting immediate pain in my hands, and this controller DID THE TRICK! The extra size of this particular model allows me to hold it comfortably and to use the analog shoulder "triggers" (or in the case of this controller: they are more like large buttons,) without causing any discomfort. In comparison to the controllers manufactured by Sega: weight is nearly the same (this one actually feels a little bit lighter,) and the interact controller has nearly 2 additional feet of length in it's connection cable. This controller gets an "A+" in my book, and has given me interest in playing my dreamcast again. It has worked just fine with all of the games I have used it with, but most importantly is the fact that it is the only one available that feels comfortable for me.

1.0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY, March 16, 2002
A Kid's Review
This review is from: ASTRO PAD DREAMCAST [Sega Dreamcast] (Video Game)
I said this onece and Ill say it agian

One day, my brother walked in the room and accidentaly steped on the regular dc controler. The stick was messed up and unrepairable. Months later, he bought a new one........this one.
First of all, It was way too big, and it was hard to insert the VMU. Plus, the joystick was too......slow, and too big to move when you need that fast action. The pad wasn't very good either, its in a wierd shape, like a circle. So when you press one direction, you might not go there.

Then something wierd happened. I was playing NFL 2K with my brother, and suddenly, the control wouldn't work.....and heres the really wierd part; the other one stopped working too.

It later came to me that the control blew out all of the controler ports. (sigh) Thats why I recomend you not buy this controler. Its faulty, slow, and just not really good. A waste of money. Now I can't play the DC anymore unless I get It repaired. Another big waste of money.......so I just got a PS2 for christmas......(thank goodness)
