I decided that I was tired of being handcuffed to my office in order to do any sort of basic computer activities, so I decided to purchase a more portable solution.

I was not looking for a replacement for my desktop, but rather a supplemental computer that could handle the more basic tasks of what I use a computer for (Internet surfing, online media, writing, etc.), so a more expensive laptop seemed like a unnecessary extravagance (and one that did not fit my budget). For what I needed, a netbook such as this seemed to fit both my budget and criteria.

The design seems study and solid, and very light. The screen can been a dust and lint magnet, so a small shammy is a handy thing to keep in your case (Not included). The chiclet-style keyboard will take some getting used to if you've worked with a full sized keyboard your whole life, and the placement of the touchpad next to the space bar can cause occasional issues with typing, but it is something that can be overcome with time and practice.

I should point out that my general experience with this computer includes the caveat that as part of my purchase, I also purchased upgrades to be installed. I purchased a 2 gig RAM upgrade from Crucial and I upgraded the OS from Win 7 Starter to Win 7 Home Premium. After reading a lot of reviews of netbooks in general, it seemed like a wise investment. Upgrading the RAM is a pretty simple process, but opening the RAM access panel on the bottom is a scary prospect because you will swear the thing will snap in half during your attempts to open it.

After the upgrades, I have little difficulty using MS Office 2010, or programs such as Photoshop 7 or Firefox 5.

The interesting is play videos in high definition, supports up to 4 GB of RAM (Corsair 4 GB DDR3 Laptop Memory CMSO4GX3M1A1333C9) Corsair 4 GB DDR3 Laptop Memory CMSO4GX3M1A1333C9

I have installed 4 GB of RAM in the netbook and works excellent, even play video games (portal, manhunnt, half life, street figther IV )

I have installed windows 7 professional 64 bits, ubuntu 11.04 64 bits, fedora 15 64 bits, and performance is great.

The bad is pre-installed windows 7 starter, this windows support up to 2 GB of RAM, no usb port 3.0, no bluetooth, no modem 3G

But price compared with atom netbooks is great

I'm a computer technician, so I'm not a regular user, I did some research before about the newest AMD APUs (CPU+GPU) and it seems like everyone loves them. To be honest, youtube 1080p is choppy with the stock 1 GB and windows 7 starter. I highly recommend to upgrade to 4 GB (4 GB is the limit) of RAM and put Windows 7 ultimate to get the most out of this computer. Windows 7 starter is a VERY water down version of home basic (you can't even change wallpapers..lol). So please upgrade...other than that, I dont know where this little machines is getting all power from.

Great notebook!

Update 10-07-11
Just wanted to give a little more info about the notebook, since some people are saying is not a helpful review..lol

After upgrading to 4 GB of RAM, I noticed that youtube 1080p wasnt really smooth and in fact it was hitting the processor really bad, but 1080p videos saved to the computer were much better, but still not watchable. Since this notebook is not even 720p, I think any video you want to watch on the laptop should be 720p at the most.

The laptop doesnt feel cheap at all, is well build but it is a dust magnet. Keyboard and touchpad is not bad at all, but of course if you have big hands you should get a 12.1" screen notebook,

Comes with HDMI, and this laptop is in fact 4 GB RAM compatible. another thing that will be a great update for this little notebook should be a SSD drive, of course those are still expensive. So only replace it if you have spare one. A great SSD should be the Crucial C300 due to the lower power consummation with only 0.092w idle power, replacing the HDD with this SSD should give you 20-40 minutes of battery life, plus much much speedy feeling.

I bought this with the intention of pairing it with a 32GB SSD I had lying around. Windows 7 doesn't really make sense at this capacity, so I planned to install Ubuntu. All I wanted was a netbook that ran on a small hard drive and could play back HD video.

Well, it turns out that AMD graphics chips and their drivers have much poorer Linux support than Nvidia's chips (think ION) or even the Atom's integrated graphics. Video playback of just SD sources has been worse on this 1015B than on the 1001P I used to own, and that had an Atom N450 (with much, much worse graphics capabilities on paper). 720p playback, whether with Flash or VLC, has consistent audio (surprisingly) but about ~5fps video. It's just unwatchable.

The reason for this, as far as I can tell, has to do with the C-30's hardware acceleration of video and access to it under Linux. Linux doesn't get to use the GPU to decode video because no available Linux drivers allow it to, so instead it has to use the CPU to decode all video, and the single-core C-30 is nowhere near powerful enough to handle it on its own. (If you need to know more, the Wiki page for "VA API" is a good starting point.)

4 stars because I otherwise like this netbook, but the bottom line: If you're considering this netbook because you want to both a) run Linux, AND b) watch HD video, look elsewhere.

(Also: I've installed a 4GB RAM stick and the BIOS acknowledges all of it. I know the specs claim to only support up to 2GB, but it supports 4GB.)
