I recently bought one of these computers and have been totally satisfied with it. I have had almost every laptop brand imaginable. In my experience, well-known brands like HP and Dell are some of the worst, and lesser-known brands like Asus and Acer are some of the best. The Asus is one of the fastest computers I've ever had, despite not having any bells and whistles. It's standard, but works extremely well. I have not had any problems with overheating, and it is also one of the lightest computers I've had (which is good, because I travel a lot). If you are looking for a computer, I would recommend Asus or Acer.

I already have a powerful desktop at home. I need a laptop for school, hanging out at coffee shops, or traveling.
This computer has a weak processor, but if you install a fresh copy of Win 7 (i.e. no crapware) and turn off some visual effects, you won't feel slow at all. It is more than enough for mobile computing needs - web browsing, typing, and listening to music.
Build quality is solid and able to withstand a lot of traveling. I looked at about 10 other computers in the 300-500 range and none comes close.
The only problem is the glossy screen. I do not understand why most laptops have glossy screens. Laptops are used outdoors sometimes - and that means huge glares on a glossy screen.

This laptop compares to laptops selling for double this ones price. I did a lot of research on the technical spec's of this ASUS as well as ASUS itself. The 'biggey' that sold me was the fact that ASUS makes the motherboard for Apple :-)

After our last laptop died I decided to get a new laptop for my wife. She only does light gaming, web browsing, and listening to music so I knew she didn't need anything too robust. After looking through dozens of other laptops I came across this one. While the specs looked decent for what we needed it to do, I was initially suspicious because of the low price. I've used plenty of "value-priced" laptops at my workplace so I know you often get what you pay for. I did know in general ASUS is a reputable company, though, and I figured for the price it was worth the chance. So here's what I found:
Pros:
- The screen looks nice and sharp with good contrast
- The touchpad is responsive (the basic stuff, see cons on the gesture motions)
- USB 3.0 and HDMI output at this price range
- The performance for basic functions is great
Cons (all minor):
- They partitioned the hard drive into about 120GB for the C drive and 150GB for the backup D drive (with only 100MB of files on it). No reason to make such a large backup partition. I can repartition it, but it defies logic for the factory to partition it like this.
- Related to the above, I'm only showing 270GB total on the 320GB hard drive. I know you always get less than the advertised hard drive size due to a few factors, but 50GB difference seems a little excessive on a 320 drive.
- The gesture motions for the touchpad have been hit and miss for me. I will admit this is the first laptop I've used that has them so that could be it, but I can't seem to get most of them to consistently work except for the scrolling.
- Plenty of bloatware installed, though that is not unique to this laptop

I've had my A53E for about 2 months now and I love it.
Pros:
- It's fast, light, and stays cool even after hours of heavy use.
- When fully charged the battery lasts for about 4.5 hours, which was more than I expected.
- Onboard graphics and processor can handle large games easily, such as The Sims 3
- Nice full keyboard
- Lots of hotkeys to increase efficiency (such as the Calculator hotkey, very nice!)
- Sleek design
- Internet connects almost instantly
- Shut down, start-up, and returning from sleep are very quick
- Processor can handle multiple tasks at once
- Optical drive is great
Cons:
- Mouse touchpad can be very sensitive sometimes (but if you're like me and use an external wireless mouse then that's no problem)
- Internal speakers are located practically on the bottom of the laptop so they sound kinda muffled (but again, no problem if you use a nifty external speaker)
- For some reason it has trouble using the internet while also listening to Pandora.com. The music skips a bit when loading new pages or content, as if Pandora is using up most of the memory. Not a big problem, but can be slightly annoying. Happens on both Chrome and Mozilla.
Overall I really like this laptop, and I give it 5 stars because it does everything I want it to do, and more. Would definitely recommend.

I've had this computer for less than one year, and the CD-ROM drive is already shot. I plan to return it for repair. I will update if I have any problems with ASUS.
