5.0 out of 5 stars Works for Apple Mac computers!
I had purchased after not being able to get the Apple Airport card to work on my wireless network. Not only does this work GREAT, but it was quick and easy to setup and pulls the full 54g from the edge of my network!

Don't waste your money on the Apple cards, this is the way to go!

BE AWARE - Asus customer service is almost non-existant. Multiple messages have resulted in no reply. If you buy it you appear to be stuck with it - weather it works or not- because the manufacturer will most likely never call you back.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most flexible wireless device I've found, August 16, 2005

I can't express how much I like this device. For less than the cost of most WAPs or Wireless bridges, you can get the flexibility of doing either in a package the size of a deck of playing cards. Web based setup is simple and intuitive. (Hint: If you want to use it as a bridge, set it up as an AP first and change the IP address to something you're unlikely to conflict with on the road.)

Power on the road? No problem with its USB-power adapter; just run it off your laptop's USB port. The regular power adapter is small and light enough that you can bring it along, too, in the attractive carrying case.

I'm a Solaris x86 user, and have beat my head against the wall trying to get 3rd party wireless drivers (Lynnsoft) to work for my laptop; if I'd known about this a year ago I would have saved myself $200 and untold headaches of dealing with wireless NICs of varying manufacturers ( and chipsets in the same model, but don't get me started) and poorly documented driver software.

Far and away, this was the best ~$70 (USD) I've spent on technology ever.

[Only downside to the whole thing is the pretty blue lights can be distracting. ADHD sufferers should medicate before using.]

Go ahead, buy it now. You know you want to.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Product!, July 6, 2005

I found the setup misleading. After a few attempts to get the AP into my favorites and fill in the necessary numbers it worked great. Oh yea remember to shut off your regular dialup! Not mentioned in the instructions. I wish the antenna was a little stronger, about 50 feet is the limit. I was able to set outside, look at the ocean, and access the net. Pretty cool!

ASUS abandons its customers

I would advise anyone considering buying any ASUS product to read this review prior to purchase. This is especially true if you are considering the purchase of the WL-330g portable wireless access point.

I purchased this portable wireless access point for use with travel. The product is supposed to come with a compact AC power adapter and efficient travel case for the access point and adapter. There are even pictures of the case and adapter on the product package. The case is supposed to have pockets sewn into it to accommodate the access point and adapter.

I was surprised to find that my case looked little like the case pictured on the package. It had only one pocket for the wireless adapter and it was rotated 90 degrees to what was pictured on the package. I was also surprised to find that my adapter looked nothing like the compact adapter pictured on the product package. These two differences make it almost impossible to fit both items in the ASUS travel case and zip it closed. I have uploaded several pictures if anyone would like to see what you actually get.

I contacted ASUS customer service and provided them with the same pictures I uploaded to Amazon.com thinking that they would simply send a case like the one pictured on the product package and would exchange my defective case. However, I was told that the ASUS warranty (which is not included in writing with the item) does NOT cover any accessories and they advised that I take the matter up with Amazon.com because they are not obligated to do anything. The email I received are found below:

Dear Mr. Rosenberg,
I apologize for your situation. Unfortunately, you will need to go back to your place of purchase for the correct packaging and contents. The ASUS warranty covers repair/replacement of your defective unit. The accessories are not covered under warranty.

Thank you,

Even though the access point works as described, I am thoroughly frustrated with the terrible customer service of ASUS. Therefore, I would stay FAR away from any ASUS products. I would advise anyone looking at this product to get the D-Link DWL-G730AP. D-Link stands behind their products and their wireless access point is cheaper too. Be sure to look at the uploaded customer images for further detail.
