Updating was easy - copy the current BIOS file from the Asus website to a USB flash drive, plug it into a USB port; reboot and hit F2 to enter the BIOS.

I received my board in mid February 2014. Upon trying a clean install of Windows 8 Pro 64 bit from Microsoft discs, I was met with nearly continuous errors. I managed to get the 32 bit version going, but even that was a bear. After installing over 200 updates for Windows version 8.0, I was allowed to download and install the version 8.1 update. I also downloaded all of the available hardware updates. Even so, I was suffering a lot of Blue Screen of Death errors and automatic reboots, and installing the ATI R7 video drivers always resulted in a blank screen condition. I kept having to fight to get back into safe mode to enable the basic Windows video drivers. Then I checked my BIOS version and found it was v.307, the original release version. The A10-7850 processor that I was using required version 704 or later, with the current version as of today (March 4th) being 907. There have been 9 updates, 4 of which came out in January 2014 alone, and most tagged as "system stability" updates.

Updating was easy - copy the current BIOS file from the Asus website to a USB flash drive, plug it into a USB port; reboot and hit F2 to enter the BIOS. On the advanced screen, select update BIOS, then select the file from the list (your hard drive, CD player, etc. will also show up on the list if connected). Click on install update, sit back for about a minute, click "OK" to reboot, then F1 to re-enter the BIOS to select settings. I just selected the default settings, and booted up in Windows. Now the ATI video drivers are working great, and no more crashes! Now I'm going to try a fresh install of Win8 64 bit on the partition that I set aside when installing the 32 bit version, and expect all to go well.

This is a killer mobo with tons of tweeker toys to scratch your over clocking itch.

ASUS supplies some heavy duty user and over clocking utilities but no glitzy media apps. This is a serious OC board. It has two PCI 3.0 Xe slots for ATI/AMD Crossfire video cards.

I highly recommend going to ASUS's website and download the pdf user manual to learn what this hotrod is capable of.

This MB was easy to set up, and the comments/ Q&A prior to mine were helpful in the building of the system. The USB Bios update is great, and the system runs good with the AMD A10-7700k processor. I am not pushing this system at all with games, but the video is very good just using the onboard GPU. I installed Windows 7 Pro 64 bit with no issues either. The system has been built for over a month now, and no issues. You can easily change the processor performance characteristics with a simple tab window, after you go through a performance setup routine.

Just get the latest bios first, and then the device drivers. Have them ready to load.

I purchased this about 2 weeks ago and have been installing the new system and such into this board. This board has excellent capabilities! After having the ROG Z board for year now the Bios on this one is a bit disappointing, but it is still a great board! Asus has reduced their warrantees to only 3 years on this board, but being Asus, that is not really much a worry. If you are looking for the biggest, greatest, fastest Mobo out there, then this is just not going to be what you are lookig for and you had probably best go for a ROG Asus board to get all you can get. But if you need a good stable and reliable system, this has a LOT to offer by far over many others out there.... most for even more money too! The built in video is no slouch either! I took this Mobo to replace a fast SLI Mobo that died and did not even bother to add the High Performance video card. Again, when not into the extremes, this board can really save you a lot of money with all this, and, it is simply built into it. Once again Asus has come up with a excellent product if used for the purpose that it is designed for. I am using this to do my busiiness work, files, word processors, and graphics displays.... it will be an excellent choice and still have enough to have fun with some pretty good games too.

I hope this helps........ by the way, the AMD A6-6400+ processor I used runs in it at 4+GHZ with simpole auto mode setup! Works with ease and no over voltages or tweeking is required: This is much skipped over and underated processor that can do well and save you a lot money in the purchase! As always, be certain to choose proven and tested memory to get the most out of it. The new memory Test Function is great and saves a LOT of time on setup and testing too. Enjoy!

Excellent FM2+ motherboard.

Really liked being able to update the BIOS without any components attached (aside from the PSU of course) - I coupled this with the 7850K APU, and support for this was only added in more recent BIOS versions. Being able to have that very first boot on current firmware gives you the confidence to approach any issues (and there were none) from a configuration perspective rather than wondering about hardware support.

I purchased some premium Corsair Dominator Platinum 32GB (4x8GB) DDR3 2133MHz memory for this, and on first boot it started off in 1333MHz mode - all I had to do was select the XMP profile in the BIOS and boom it was running at full speed. No adjusting or figuring things out, what a timesaver!

The old school PCI slots are a waste of time on a modern motherboard like this, especially having two of them. Far better to leave a slot gap below the first x16 slot for dGPUs that use up that space (which is MOST of them) and shuffle the other PCI-E slots down further. If you removed both PCI slots, you could have a slot gap for the both x16(x8) sized slots.
