I purchased this laptop to replace a HP HDX18. It was a good laptop, but I had numerous issues with it from the start (for some reason HP has a real problem with optical drives failing). Finally, the video card (or possibly the screen--I never verified) died, so I went about looking for a solid replacement. While the ASUS RoG line is pricey, there is an undeniable quality of construction that just wasn't there with my prior HP laptops. It just feels solid, tight, not loose and rickety like so many other brands.

The specs speak for themselves. I'm not a big gamer, but I do 3D modeling and rendering as a hobby, and this thing handles rendering almost as well as my desktop computer. The 12GB of RAM really helps to keep everything running smoothly, no matter how many programs I have open or Chrome tabs running simultaneously.

I did do a personal upgrade from the standard operating system hard drive to a 128GB solid state drive (SSD). The speed difference is astounding! If you're not comfortable with changing out hard drives and re-installing Windows and drivers, then just make the upgrade here at the point of purchase; otherwise, it's not difficult. Either way, you'll be VERY glad you made the leap to SSD!

The mouse pad is a multitouch pad. There is no scroll section off to the side like in my HP laptops. Scrolling is achieved by dragging two fingers simultaneously down the touchpad. Zooming in and out is achieved just how it is done on iPhones and Androids, by squeezing fingers together on the pad or by spreading them out. Three fingers dragged down is "Show Desktop", etc. There aren't a lot of multitouch commands, but the ones that are there are pretty handy.

I only have two complaints so far:
1) the speakers are inordinately quiet.

This is a 30-day user review. I purchased the same Amazon product from J&R directly after looking at my pricing options, but Amazon is always competitive great. I'll state upfront I'm satisfied with everything so far. I've read some mixed reviews and understand everyone has a different experience. With that said, I'll go into detail.

1. As a laptop that's really a desktop replacement for a casual gamer, that category means, its more luggable than portable. It comes with a nice ROG branded back pack, so you'll look cool lugging it around, if needed. Don't complain about short battery life or heavy power supply since that was a trade made when you wanted a gaming laptop. I'll agree there may be lighter options. The build quality won't get you a lightweight.

2. As a gaming platform, you may want to buy a gaming keyboard. I did, and while there is nothing wrong with the keyboard, you may want to adjust the screen location to be higher than your arms can rest comfortably. Also you can customize keys beyond what the ASUS software natively supports. The USB ROG Gaming mouse that comes with it is really superb.

3. Despite the awesome processor and graphics, the Windows Experience is low (under 6 on a scale of 8) because of the speed of this laptops SATA III 7200-rpm drives make the test scores fall below 7. Be advised, the 2 identical 750GB drives are not slow. If you want you can "customize the RAID configuration in BIOS and give-up capacity (1.5TB) by using a STRIPED RAID configuration. You'll also give up the restore partition, which to me is an awesome feature in case of disaster. As a casual gamer, an alternative would be to add a SSD Hybrid drive (I did) and it's not a noticeable problem with boot time or OS access. All of the USB ports are 3.

This is an outstanding gamer and the best lap top I have ever owned. The price is affordable given all the programs that come installed. The sound and graphics just knock your socks off. Highly recommended!

Ordered Friday and got it Saturday morning. Literally a 24 hr delivery.

At first look, this is improved over the G51, my other heavy usage laptop. The screen is a little bigger and screen looks better. I work with photo editing, not games. The AC adapter weighs 2 pounds and is the size of a brick. Of course the G75 is an inch wider and 3 inches deeper than the G51.

The speed and performance is what I was expecting and it is nice. One feature I really like is the backlit keyboard. If it had not been present I would have selected a different brand or model.

I gave it 4 out of 5 due to presentaion information which I felt was to brief and incomplete. For instance, a carry case was included in the unit I recieved and it was not expected. On the computer itself, a 5 rating is earned in my opinion.

At this point my disappointment is two ~750gb HDDs are installed. Not a single 1.5tb HDD. I will have to remove one to install a SSD. I feel like I paid an extra $150 for that second HDD. My gripe at this point as I feel the specs were misleading about the HDD space. After researching the specs, this model is described as a two HDD drive model in other places.

The Blue-Ray is a player only for BD not a writer. DVD support seems complete.

More later as I see how it holds up.
