I researched laptops for a month before I bought my ASUS G75VW-DS72. I'm a video shooter/editor and I was tired of the lags and skips on hi-def AVI files. I ordered the ASUS from Amazon and hoped for the best. I received it it the mail five days before I expected it.

WOW did I do some awesome research. This laptop is SCREAMING FAST. My previous laptop was pretty fast, it rendered a 10 minute DV-AVI in about 20 minutes. My new ASUS renders the same 10 minute video in less than 2 minutes! POW!

I won't miss the bluescreen of death once a month that I'd come to expect with my previous model (VAIO). No disrespect, my VAIO was a real pal, a trooper that got me through MANY edits, but its newest reviews didn't impress me.

I am so happy with my new ASUS that I render movies I don't even need...just to watch the progress bar fly to the right. This laptop was clearly designed for gamers, but it's perfect for my video productions.

I have found all pros and no cons with my new ASUS. There is much joy in my heart each time I lift the lid.

I received this laptop yesterday and was drooling to get it out of the box and fired up. I was immediately impressed with the looks and feel of this machine. I got the battery loaded, plugged it in and turned it on. I then went through all the new startup menus and got to my desktop, so far so good as I was loving everything about it. Then, once I started playing with all the cool programs preloaded by ASUS, the trouble started. I kept getting a screen blanking and message saying that my video driver recovered from a failure or something along those lines. So, I thought, I probably need to update the drivers and all that normal new computer stuff. Once I got to NVIDIA's web site, I come to learn that the graphics card in this machine doesn't have any drivers out for it yet!!! HUH? Yep, NVIDIA put out the GTX 670M graphics card with no extablished drivers for it. After reading the forums, there is still no date given for when the drivers will be available. They have the drivers for the Linux OS but not for Win 7/XP. So, those of you that are wanting a "turnkey" system right out of the box will be dissapointed as I was to discover that you will have to wait an undetermined amount of time for drivers to support the card in this laptop. As it sits now, can't even play the current games on the lowest video settings without screen blanking and even blue-screen/system restarts. I'm sure that once the drivers are out, this system will be a gamer's dream but till then.......I'm keeping my finger's crossed.

UPDATE: Today is 6/28/2012 and I just got my laptop back from ASUS after sending it to them on the 19th. IT IS A FREAKING BEAST !!!!. They replaced the GPU in the system as the original one was obviously bad.

I got this to replace a Dell...yeah, I've had enough of them.

First let me say...WOW!

That SSD makes this thing rock! This is my first SSD system, so I am perhaps unduly impressed, but hey, I AM impressed. I'm not sure why both drives are partitioned in halves, and that is a tad annoying, but it isn't the end of the world.

The keyboard is splendid. It's going to take a little getting used to, as all laptop keyboards do, but I've suffered through far, far worse than this. The spacing between the keys helps prevent hitting two keys at once, and the keys are where they're supposed to be. The feel is fairly typical of modern keyboards...unfortunately...but better than most of them. The only thing better than this would be an old-school clicky keyboard of IBM legend. It is WAY better than Dell, Emachines, Lenovo, Fujitsu, Gigabyte, and any other laptop I've used, and many of those were quite nice.

The 10-key ain't so hot. It works, and it beats the top row of the keyboard by a mile, but whoever designed it has no clue how to use 10-key by touch. There isn't supposed to be an arrow key under the "1". Nothing fatal here...I just have to make adjustments. It's still fairly thrilling to have a 10-key on a laptop!

The "end" key is a tad awkward, as it's all the way to the right of the keyboard, above the 10-key, and next to the "home", "page up" and "page" down.

The lights are nice. I type by touch, so I really don't need it, but it sure looks pretty, and isn't annoying or distracting like the Dell, so I haven't turned it off. It might help locating 'board chow' that's sure to find its way in there.

On the whole, the keyboard feels good, and that, to me, is the most important part of my computer use.

I have been ready for some time to upgrade my formerly very nice and relatively powerful HP notebook computer to something more substantial. As a result, I started doing a lot of research. It did not take long for me to settle on what I consider to be the perfect machine for my needs which typically require having several processor/memory intensive programs open at the same time. These programs include Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, Minitab statistical analysis software, image editing software, and a very sophisticated wastewater modeling program. Based on an extensive amount of research, my choice became the Asus G75VW-DS72 17.3-inch notebook. Amazon got this model in stock as of 6/22/2012 and I immediately placed my order, receiving the machine the next day, on Saturday, June 23, 2012.

This Asus model is considered to be a "gaming" laptop and though I don't play games on my computer, anyone doing intensive computer work should seriously consider a gaming platform because of the incredible performance specifications these computers have. I spent all of Saturday and Sunday installing my software on this new computer. Everything installed without any problems at all. I am now at a project site doing wastewater modeling for a customer with my new, and very beautiful, Asus notebook, and I could not be more thrilled with the quality and performance of my computer. Just as I am so impressed with my new notebook, so is everyone who sees it. To begin with, the screen is awesome. It has the perfect brightness, clarity, non-glare, high resolution I was looking and hoping for. This is a very, very well-built, powerful, QUIET, and cool-running notebook. I have truly put this machine to maximum use and it has performed flawlessly.
