Product Description

From the manufacturer

Incredible value for FSB800 and dual-channel DDR400 solution

The ASUS P4S800D-X, based on the SiS 655FX chipset, packs innovative features such as 800MHx FSB, dual-channel DDR 400, AGP 8x, S/PDIF out, Serial ATA, and 8 USB 2.0 ports. Of course, unique ASUS features are also included.

Sis HyperStreaming Architecture

SiS 655FX integrates the latest HyperStreaming Engine, which optimizes the performance of the entire computer system. It smartly manage the data streaming to flow effortlessly from the peripherals to the core logic chipsets, between the North and South bridge and to the front side bus, memory and graphic interface. This greatly improves the total performance, which traditional technologies lag behind.

Dual-channel DDR400

Dual-channel DDR technology doubles the bandwidth of your system memory and hence boost the system performance to outperform any memory existing solutions in the market. The P4S800D-X allows you to handle memory-intensive tasks with ease.

Serial ATA technology

Serial ATA is the next generation ATA specification that provides scalable performance for today and tomorrow. With up to 150MB/s data transfer rate, Serial ATA is faster than current Parallel ATA, while providing 100% software compatibility.

C.P.R. (CPU Parameter Recall)

When the system hangs due to overclocking failure, there is no need to open the case to clear the CMOS data. Just simply restart the system, the BIOS would show the previous setting and then users can amend the CPU setting again.

ASUS MyLogo2

You can convert your favorite photo into a 256-color boot logo for a more colorful and vivid image on your screen.

ASUS Instant Music Lite

Through this unique feature, P4S800D-X is conveniently designed to allow users to enjoy their favorite music without the need to enter Windows.

S/PDIF out port on back I/O

8 USB 2.0 ports support

USB 2.0 is the latest connectivity standard for next generation components and peripherals. Backward compatible with current USB 1.1 peripherals, USB 2.0 delivers transfer speeds up to 40 times faster at 480Mb/s, for easy connectivity and ultra-fast data transfers.

CrashFree BIOS 2~

Whenever BIOS gets corrupted, ASUS CrashFree BIOS 2 allows users to reboot the computer and perform an smart auto-recovery procedure through the motherboard support CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Motherboard, January 3, 2007

This review is from: ASUS P4S800D-X ATX Intel Motherboard (Personal Computers)
They ask for review NOW!!! Well, if you're like me and built your own system a few years back and are all of the sudden needing a new motherboard because your USB got fried... This is a fine motherboard. I think it came out in this version after they started pushing the next socket CPUs. And really this is the reason I bought this one, too cheap to buy new memory and CPU, not to mention I still use AGP.

The built-in gigabit is great. It is recognized by Windows installation without having to find the CD. The sound is fantastic and easily configurable. The USB numbers are numerous and allow for front ports. The pseudo upgrade also gave me the ability to use SATA hard drives and add another GB of ram if I so desire.

If you can still find this board new or in a swap meet, and you are cheap like me, it is definitely a good buy.

This review is from: ASUS P4S800D-X ATX Intel Motherboard (Personal Computers)
I suspected I was having some problems with my previous mother board so I decided to change it and looked into many different boards. This was the board I ultimately settled on because among other things it has the ASUS name and reputaion, had descent revierws and the price was right. Also it had the agp 8x's slot and i had just recently purchased an invidia gforce 6200 agp video card which i really like a lot. I've done a lot of work on computers in the past but ironically this was the first time I ever actually replaced a motherboard on any system I owned. Outside of my being very anal about it, taking my time triple checking everything and not knowing what to expect the replacement and installation actually went smoothly. The manual was pretty well written and helpful. The board itself is full size which you should know if space is a limting factor but one i liked as it has more expansion slots which most others don't offer now for some reason. After installing the board it booted up into bios and the bios is great. It has tons of settings and features and includes over clocking right from the bios. Just be aware the over clocking may or may not work for you. In my case for some reason it doesn't. Most of the bios features pretty much explained what they are which is a really nice feature also especially for newby's or ones in the dark about what settings do what like with a lot of other bios's. After checking out all the bios features I left pretty much everything alone setting wise and continued to let the system boot up. It did not boot into Windows XP but I kind of figured this would happen since my old board had apparent problems and Windows os froze and shut down a ton of times. Any way after letting my Windows XP disc do a repair everything went smoothly. This board so far is working beautifully and for me atleast seems pretty darn fast. I'm running an Intel 2.4 processor and have 512 megs ddr ram. This board states it supports up to 4 gigs of ddr400 memmory but mine is working just fine with what i have. I would have given this board a 5 star rating but there are a few things I would have like to have seen added to the board or would have liked it being capable of doing. Number 1 is that its compatibility only allows support for Microsoft windows Me and up. It specifies it does not support Windows 98SE. I thought this a little strange and perhaps minor but it wasn't specified in any of the write ups and there are people out there that want to run several OS's and sometimes older ones. I too would have just liked for the option to be there. Also it would have been nice with all the slots included on this board to have one of them be a pci express. Also, it does not apparently support more than one floppy disk drive. While most may not need it I still have and would like to use my 5 1/4" 1.2 drive in conjuction with my 3 1/2" 1.4? I have a full size tower case and like to fill it up! One other thing is that they should have placed some plastic support feet for the board. If your like me and are replacing a smaller board with this being a full lenght larger size board then a few extra of these supports would have definately come in handy. I plan on contacting Asus to see if any of the issues regarding the floppies and older OS's are something I over looked and can fix? Other than that if any of these mentioned missing items or issues don't present a problem to you then I would definately highly recommend this ASUS motherboard! I hope this helps & good luck.
