5.0 out of 5 stars Solid Motherboard, December 31, 2008
This review is from: ASUS P5Q LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard (Personal Computers)
This is one very well laid out motherboard. The instruction book is perfectly clear. Virtually step by step instructions for assembly.

First power up everything worked perfectly.

I had a series of BSOD early on, and can attribute them to the Asus green utility. This software, on the fly, over and underclocks your computer. Something about my set up just didn't like that kind of monkey business. Once removed, the board has been rock solid.

My set up:
OCZ DDR2 1066 4Gb memory
Core 2 Quad Q9550, with stock fan
Antec P182 case
Antec 500W power supply
BFG 8800GT OC
2 Samsung SATA DVD burners
and a boat load of hard drives

One of the better parts of this motherboard - there are tons of USB connectors and SATA connectors. Sadly there's only 1 1594 port. The eSATA ports are on a supplied bulkhead (so you lose 2 SATA ports on the motherboard).

The Raid controller works fantastic.

I'd buy Asus again in a heartbeat.

I've had this board for about 3 months now and have had no issues with it. I did not have any of the problems that the other reviewer had when I set up my rig. Perhaps I was a bit luckier in picking out parts for my system, but everything worked out well for me.

Overall, it's a great, stable board with plenty of SATA connectors for extra drives. My only complaint is a minor one: I thought the BIOS layout was a little confusing.

My system as of December 2008:
Intel e8400 3GHz@3.6GHz
Arctic Freezer 7 Pro
Enermax Liberty 500W PSU
OCZ Reaper 2GB DDR2 1066 5-5-5-12@2.1V
Western Digital 500GB
2 x Western Digital 250GB
Lite-On DVD-RW drive
eVGA 8800 GTS 320MB
onboard sound
onboard ethernet

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid motherboard that overclocks well, January 30, 2009
This review is from: ASUS P5Q LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard (Personal Computers)
Asus makes good motherboards. I was able to overclock my x3350 (similar to q9450) quad core from 2.66 ghz to 3.44 ghz with no problem. With some research I was able to tweak some settings for better performance and less heat.

FYI, if you are running stock speed, set the voltages to one step above the minimum. I have read that Asus boards tend to put a bit more voltage at auto and first settings for some weird reason. That is why I removed a star, because the first step voltage settings are misleading and the auto settings put too much voltage (heat) IMO.
