I am very happy with this motherboard.

I used to build systems for fun years ago and back then my general experience was that motherboards could, more often then not, be a bit flaky. With that in mind this board has impressed me with how solid it is. Also, on a more physical note, I really like how the board is reinforced with a back plate.

I get the sense that this is a good sort of all around board. It has gobs of features in it's UEFI to play around with, but probably not as many as the gamer focused ROG series. There are lots of SATA, USB, and fan connections, and the dust guards are a nice touch. My case (Enthoo Pro) came with a simple fan controller. I decided to use the connections on the board instead. I have a front, rear, and bottom fan in addtition to two fans on an H100i liquid cooler all plugged into the board and it seems to control all of them just fine.

The metal step plate with camo scheme of the "thermal armor" is a bit corny to me (I'm ex military), but I do like having something covering up most of the unmentionables on the board.

I had no clearance problems installing a large graphics card. The end of the card traveled over the intel USB 3.0 and SATA slots, but this wasn't an issue with non-angled connectors.

The manual that comes with the board is very good. I've never seen such a comprehensive manual for a motherboard, but again, it's been a while :).

Updating the bios was effortless. I didn't even have a monitor plugged in, just power to the board from the PSU. I simply inserted a USB stick with the updated bios file in it's root into a specially designated USB port on the back io block and pushed a button. A little light flashed for a while and it was done. No drama.

Pros: Plenty of fan connections and Intel CPU support. Lots of sata & other connections. Dual LAN ports.Metal back plate makes the board stronger.
Cons: The plastic armor covering made some components not compatible with my board. Specifically in the PCIE slots where the plastic armor is raised and slopes down. Some LED kits or wifi adapters or other add ons may not fit. I had trouble getting mine to fit.

Overall 4/5

This was my first system build in over a decade, and I think that should be borne in mind while evaluating my comments. I'm not nearly as tech savvy as other Amazon reviewers, or reviewers elsewhere on the internet.

I can't judge component quality as an industry insider could, but this motherboard certainly has the look and feel of a product made to last. It doesn't feel delicate, and I didn't worry about flexing anything while installing the processor and stock cooler. As others have noted, the armor/shielding _did_ make it more difficult to install the screws for the motherboard. That's the only Sabertooth disadvantage that comes to mind.

The manual leaves room for improvement, but was clear enough. The BIOS update and drivers all loaded smoothly. I haven't figured out how to install AI Suite so it doesn't pester me with UAC prompts when I log on in 'user' mode, but don't really need it; the UEFI BIOS tells me everything I need to know about processor/motherboard temps and fan operation.

This is my first build on a TUF series board which has it's origins in the the demanding realm of 24/7/365 enterprise server applications. ASUS wisely shifted the market focus to include enthusiast builders while retaining the rugged components and feature set demanded by industrial applications.

Pros: Extensive thermal management hardware and software. MOSFETs, chokes and capacitors are all built and certified to be compliant with a dozen Mil-Std requirements including, but not limited to, Thermal Shock, Mechanical Shock, Moisture Resistance and even Salt Spray testing.

The thermal armor and back plate make for a very rugged look and feel. On-board ventilation fans(2) (reversible per BIOS scheduling for de-dusting) offer a wide variety of configurations and profiles to facilitate thermal management, monitoring, and scheduling. Also included are three temperature probes which can be attached anywhere you like and included in the aforementioned thermal management.

Overall there are nine (9) temperature sensors integrated into the motherboard with three (3) additional probes.
Onboard thermal sensors:
-CPU
-VCore
-VCore Back
-PCH (Chipset)
-DIMM
-PCI-E 1
-PCI-E 2
-USB 3.0
-MoBo (Near BIOS)
+3 Probes

All of the above integrated sensors plus additional probes can be utilized in BIOS, AISuite, or CorsairLink (w-H80i/H100i) to create multiple cooling profiles which can control the CPU Fans(2), Pump, Chassis Fans(4), and Assistant Fans(2). All fan headers are 4-pin PWM capable. As a general rule I never have been too fond of any extra s/w running and the BIOS can handle it all alone. That said the AISuite and CorsairLink are quite well done if you need some quick access monitoring or multiple profiles.

Overall excellent motherboard. I had no difficulty getting my parts to fit, despite the thermal armor. I've had an unusual issue with my bios becoming unresponsive occasionally and not recognizing my CPU (intel i7 4790k), but this is usually after attempting to enter bios right after I've already been in bios. I've found that if I let the computer restart fully and then try to enter bios that I don't have any issues.

I really like the backplate and overall sturdiness of the board. My only real wish at this point is that there were more PCI-e lanes, since I'm restricted to 2 GPU SLIs and 2 add-on cards. No room for anything else, like a 3rd GPU.

BUT, overall I highly recommend this board. Easy to navigate, easy to mount and fit onto, and it runs dead cold thanks to thermal cooling.
