You can hardly hear the fans at all even under load.

I already wrote a review for this from Newegg, where I purchased the card from, so I will copy that and add a few things I missed (will show additions as I go in [ ]). TL;DR at end.

~ PROS ~

Popped it in and worked as it should. I honestly don't know where to start so I'll try this...

Noise: It's non-existent. I seem to hear it above 70%, but that's also with a H80 right next to the card and 4 case fans [so it's more hearing those than the card still]. Even at 100% fan (not needed at all) it's still nowhere as loud as my 480 at 100%, [but is audible as expected]. Coming from one of the top 3 loudest cards on the market, it's an awesome change.

Cooling: In Furmark I can't get it to work past 62 C. That is with my max overclock, and fan obviously stays low (I set my own). The fans will turn off when the temperate is lower than 40 C, but since I can't heat it I just run them. In games it is higher. Crysis 3 was hitting about 68 C, and Unigine Heaven hitting 72 C. [AC4 Black Flag was the same with around 65-70 C. All with the fan at 60% or under].

Performance: Well, coming from a GTX 480 it's night and day. Sleeping Dogs (max) was ~110 FPS in the benchmark while ~95 in gameplay on average. Resident Evil 5 (max) is ~130 FPS (and ~100 FPS in 3D). Scored a 5682 in 3DMark Fire Strike Extreme with highest overclock. Unigine Heaven Extreme @ native, reference clocks (not the factory OC), is 50.8 FPS. With my overclock, it's 58.3 FPS. Crysis 3 (Max/4xMSAA) is around 45 FPS average in the opening ship area. Dead Rising 3 on average is between 55-60 FPS, while obviously dropping in cutscenes due to subsurface scattering to around 45-50 FPS.

Okay, first of all, this is the one for best bang for the buck on the High-End range of the Video card.
And we all know High-End video cards are NEVER worth $ per performance.
But this is worth every $349 you spend for many reasons.

I'm sure whoever looking for the card already saw in-depth review of Reference GTX 970 from many professional online review so I will save the number and details.

However, this Asus STRIX stands out from other manufacturers.

Pros
-It runs 0db when idle or not using its full power. That means it is passively cooled when it is not on full load so it saves you power and mostly, noise. I believe MSI TF version also has this feature.
-It has Single 8-pin connector, so 75W from PCI-E lane and 150W from 8 pins means maximum of 225W of TDP. However, The reference clocked GTX 970 runs ONLY at 145W under load so that extra 8 pin is only used for overclocking with added voltage for power. However I see this as a plus because that means there are less cable to plug at the card means less cable management to make your rig looks nice.
-The usual high quality Asus DirectCU II cooler. It is pretty darn silent even at full load for around 42dbs and it runs around 60'c at full load. It may run a maybe bit higher at furmark but many of us know that specific benchmark makes your video card go under stress more than it should be on a game.
- 3 year warranty is always nice.
- It really is worth bang for the buck. GTX 970 is well priced for its performance and Asus' superior aftermarket cooler only cost $10~20 more than the reference model.
- Somewhat medium sized 2 slot form factor. It should fix in most Cases even in ITX cases is managed properly.
- Overclocks decently despite the maximum TDP of 225W.

Have had this card for almost a week now, and I have to say that I'm incredibly surprised by what I got for the cost. At 1080p, all games that I've played, including Metro Last Light and Crysis 3, run at ALL settings maxed with framerates at a very minimum of 40, and I have yet to overclock the card. Not only that, but the fans are very quiet, which makes a huge difference with the small case I have where most noise seeps through. Also, the card draws so little power, that the fans don't even turn on until ~5mins into playing a demanding game, and in less demanding games like Diablo 3, LoL, Dota 2, etc. the fans don't even turn on at all. This is a card that I definitely look forward to SLI in the future and I'm extremely happy with my purchase.

I can safely say that waiting a year to get my gfx card was well worth it!

Asus should probably rename the card to 970 assassin edition, because of its non existent non footprint.

Other reviews have covered the pros, but i can't help but to emphasis on how silent this card is running. Noise don't really bother me until i got the R9 290, since then i got noise phobia, so i become very picky in terms of fans DB for my next card.

The card handles everything with good fps, and play moderate demanding titles like dota 2, fifa 15 etc without the need of fan spinning, 0db means u won't any fan noise at all (not considering other components from your system).

I tested COH 2 which is known to be graphic intensive, it does spin up the fan and max temp reach 70C at most, fan speed around 50%. But at that point the fan is still not audible at all. I tried to adjust it to 70-100 region and enclosed in a good case it is still not audible. I am so amazed that i forced myself to purposely pick up the noise because i find the fan performance hard to believe.

Granted, you can hear the fan if you put your ear next to the fan (1 feet distance), but anything more than that the fans is nearly non existent (in a good way).

One more thing, my ambient temp is around 30C, and usually i need to turn on AC when gaming, but this time even when i forget to turn on the AC i won't realize it until i actually saw the AC unit, not because of the hot temp. the power saving may cut ur bill by a little but not having AC to drive down room temp definitely will cut down ur electric bill.

Anyway, it idles at 45C for the 0db fan feature so if it bothers you, spin it up with MSI afterburner (asus tweak is so buggy).
I noticed that my games looks washed out than usual.
